I'm shutting down @PsyArXiv_bot_v2 until further notice. You can still get #Psyarxiv notifications on @bluesky.

Question for my fellow task #fMRI folks: A frequent assumption I see (including in my own work) is that regions that are the most 'activated' in a contrast will also show the largest associations with individual differences. Is there any empirical work showing this is the case?

Remember back in 2022, when we didn't need to worry about a 2nd Trump Presidency, but were concerned about how many participants it would take to map links between personality & brain activity? (cf work by @smarek0502 & @ndosenbach) We have good news 👇 nature.com/articles/s42003-0…

Woo another fun collab in the books! Enjoyed getting comfortable with multilevel log-linear models for this one.
🥳New pub! Kappa opioid receptor agonists are clinically effective in treating chronic itch, but how do they work? We've found which neurons carry itch from the spinal cord to the brain and show kappa agonists inhibit these cells to suppress scratching 🦟 science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

I've gotten multiple questions about how to visualize white matter tracts with the ABCD, but I don't think there's an easy way. Is it time for a ggsegAtlasTrack?

Spin tests and such are great if you're comparing brain maps of distributions (mean/variance/etc). But if the maps are from regressions - use permutations!! Better error control, and can be applied to any measure type (volume, connectivity, white matter), not just the surface.

Does anyone know - what was the first study of individual differences that used an fMRI task?
