The wheel is turning folks
Shipped some neat @DeadsoundApp updates for iOS today. Beyond general tweaks, like a typography refresh and iOS 26/liquid glass stying, some of the more notable bits include
1. Enhanced setlists that show guests on specific tracks
You go back to your dateβs house and sheβs delicate and seems like the mirror, but the ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face β what do you do?
I sent an entirely reasonable email about music to a friend whose reply to me was crude and priapic; Iβm as anti-AI as any respectable person, but this suggested reply to him is GOOD.
Looking to add to your playlist of obscure autumnal tunes? You can't go wrong with Cat Mother's "Last Go Round" off ofβyou guessed it!βtheir sophomore 1970 album "Albion Doo-Wah."
I like looking for live setlists for Dylan because you find yourself searching things like "current time Horsens." Then you learn a bit about a Danish city. Bering (of Strait fame) was born there! He looked like a goober but it turns out his uncle was (probably) the goober?
I always thought I liked the Jeff Buckley version of βMama You Been on My Mind.β It came on tonight, and now, in an homage to the Cook Political Report season weβre in, Iβm moving it to the Leans Bad column
Was pleasantly surprised to hear this Melanie song over the closing credits of "Digger." I've listened to this version with Miley a lot in the decade since it came out, and you should too.

To whom it may concern: The great Gillian Welch & David Rawlings recently hopped on KEXP to play a handful of Dead classics and promote their βAcoustic Reckoningβ tour. Highly suggest. Hereβs βDire Wolfβ.π₯

What I wouldnβt give to go back to October 1989 to attend the Hampton job fair β and also whatever Seafest was. And later, if thereβs time, to see the Dead (billed here as the Warlocks).
My first ideaβwhich I think's literally impossibleβwas to do a song mentioning another song.
So start with, say, Big Star "Thirteen" mentioning "Paint It Black," then "Paint it Black" mentions...nothing. I'd be surprised if anyone could go 3 songs deep. 4 would be impossible.
I've invented a game which may be impossible. Or at least very difficult.
Find a song that name-drops another artist. Then find a song by that artist that mentions a third artist. Etc.
You win if you get to ten.
I have made a hilariously obvious mistake. I guess I should've listened to the song again. I should be thrown in Pavement jail β if only I wouldn't like that so much! xitter.cf/j_m_barnes/status/2102β¦

You gotta listen to Picket Fence again. "Some bands I like to name check, one of them is R.E.M."
It's a shame that this sort of live music isn't financially viable anymore. This is exactly how a band should look and sound, especially a string section. And at 1:18, when Rowland's voice perfectly blends in with the fiddle? Dinner is served!
Arguably one of the ten best songs of the decade, but Lowellβs hat is astoundingly mystifying here. Thereβs like a belt in the middle?
