Vikings should call up the Chargers and give them whatever they want for Herbert. They would become Super Bowl favorites overnight if they had a QB
Do not quote retweet this or I will be forced to give people $42.0 or $420!
This is not engagement farming, it’s 1am and I’m bored AF and we all deserve a 420 break!
Do not quote retweet or you might get smashed with X Money
This is what Money Ball is. If you sign players whose value differs from what everyone else seeks, you can get better players for less cost. The Rays stay ahead of the curve. They ran guys throwing 100+ consistently before it caught on, picking up gas throwing but inaccurate players other teams didn’t want. Now they target guys who can bunt and run and don’t strike out, because that’s undervalued. Billy Beene in Oakland grabbed high-strikeout HR guys before it was cool. Then they got expensive once other teams jumped on the bandwagon. That’s how Moneyball works. It’s not that hitting for contact and stealing bases will keep working when everyone else is overpaying for those players. It works right now because the Rays picked up all those guys that nobody else wanted.
Replying to @MichaelaB_22
....by out homering their opponents in both rounds. The anti-thesis of your entire point. Good job.

The Brewers, Rays, and Guardians proving small markets can compete in a given year is real. It undercuts the idea that MLB is completely broken. But treating those runs as proof that big spending doesn’t matter is bullshit. Its like pointing to the kid who made it out of poverty and saying “see, anyone can do it,” while ignoring how much easier it is for the rich kid who gets to start on third base.
High payroll teams (Dodgers, Yankees) don’t win every year, but they almost never bottom out. They stay in the playoffs far more consistently. Low payroll teams can punch above their weight through development and smart moves but they rotate in and out while the big spenders keep reloading.
Occasional success from the bottom doesn’t erase the structural advantage of having the money to retain stars, add free agents, and absorb injuries.
I see this "calls" tab on my X menu. Has anyone used it? It feels like it is their version of Zoom or Google Meet. Am I on the right track?
How am I seeing the same people who scream and yell about the Red Sox being cheap and not paying for free agents cheering on the possibility of two small market teams being in the World Series? Do you want the Red Sox to be the Dodgers or the Guardians? Pick a lane.
The question is not whether those things are valuable or not but how can you measure it. Whoever can figure out how to objectively measure a “vibes guy” will be way ahead of the pack.
At some point, baseball has to get back to valuing ballplayers and not just numbers on a screen. Give me the Freddie Freemans, the Buster Poseys, Hunter Pences, Pablo Sandovals, Michael Youngs, Ian Kinslers of the world. Guys who just flat out know how to play the game. Everyone wants to talk launch angle and exit velo, but what happened to valuing a quality at bat?” The 9-pitch battle that might end in an out, but forces a pitcher to show everything he’s got.
The guy who hits behind the runner, takes what’s given, or just refuses to give a pitcher an easy inning. Those at-bats might not look sexy in the box score, but they show up in the 7th, 8th, and 9th. Some of these dudes could absolutely leave the yard too. That’s the point. They weren’t one-dimensional. Somewhere along the way, we confused measurable tools with knowing how to win baseball games.
I’m not against analytics or hitting the ball hard, but there is an art to winning that you can’t fully measure. We need more guys who know how to play baseball, not just hitters, not just athletes, ballplayers. And I promise you, those dudes never go out of style
I am so glad that these people aren’t the GM.
We are 12 hours into the offseason and Red Sox ownership slander has already begun. This team was not a World Series contender, and nothing they could have done in the offseason was going to change that. They made the playoffs, and anyone can get hot once there. Making the playoffs two years in a row is what they should be doing. The Red Sox had the 3rd best record in the American League. What are we doing here?
I love this idea. It would shut up so much of the insufferable fans
if i ran a major league baseball franchise i’d feed every stat imaginable into frontier ai models & basically delegate the roster construction + entire game management layer to them. no traditional manager & no gm making baseball decisions by gut ever. the manager & gm are both ai agents.
for every game every pitch would update the model including exit velocity, pitch velocity, spin, fatigue, matchups, positioning, bullpen availability / usage, etc. & it would continuously simulate thousands of scenarios & make the highest expected value decision in real time.
then over a 162 game season it watches every game afterward through precision cameras, grades every decision, learns from every outcome, & gets better.
baseball might be the perfect sport for this. it has discrete events, absurd amounts of data, repeated situations, & a gigantic sample size.
billy beane found mispriced players but this finds mispriced decisions too on every layer.
can some billionaire please buy an mlb franchise & let me run this experiment pretty please?
this would be the houston astros on steroids. imagine ai winning a ring?

Red Sox have 87 wins with a fake home game to go that nobody cares about. Massive roller coaster year to land exactly where Vegas pegged them. When I say chill out every year and people flip out on me this is what I mean.
The FCC wouldn’t let ABC air this interview saying something about an unequal air time doctrine. If the other party refuses an invite is that supposed to negate the rule? This seems like an unethical way to enforce these rules. Anyway here is a link to the Jimmy Kimmel interview with James Talarico that wasn’t allowed to be aired.
