Th focus is on Ground Zero as we mark 20 years since 9/11, but @MaxHolleran and I turned towards the nearly 2,000 scattered memorials made from WTC steel to find out what these relics say about memory, patriotism, & the presence of loss in everyday spaces. placesjournal.org/article/re…

“Sometimes it is because there isn’t anyone to come and claim them. Sometimes it is because they were simply forgotten about by their families. We let the funeral homes know that we will take them. We will claim them, and we will make sure to honor them.”

Outraged whilst researching the funeral industry. Forget Big Pharma, we need to talk about Big Fune. Funeral costs are rising at 3x the rate of inflation. Coffins are marked up between 300%-1000%. In Aus, 1 company owns 40% of all funeral homes (1/3)

There’s 3 of us that work in my mortuary and it’s so incredibly hard, overwhelming and pretty scary right now. What makes it harder is that we feel completely forgotten about just because we’re not NHS. We do the exact same job but we’re employed by a council.....1/2
