Anyone can put your CEO's address in the "From" field. The mail server delivers it happily.
This graphic shows why:
Actual sender -> [email protected]
What you see -> [email protected]
SPF and DKIM check the hidden parts.
Only DMARC checks the address you actually SEE.
What's the difference between SIEM and log management?
Let me make it simple for you.
Log management collects, stores, and searches logs.
A SIEM goes further: it correlates events across sources to catch what no single log ever reveals.
"We have SPF configured, so we're safe from spoofing."
Wrong, and here's why.
SPF checks the hidden envelope sender, not the From address you actually see.
Only DMARC alignment protects the address a human reads.
255.255.255.0 is not a magic number.
It's just 1s and 0s wearing a costume:
11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000
1 = network bit (fixed)
0 = host bit (yours to assign)
255 is what a byte of all 1s looks like in decimal.
That's it. That's the whole trick.
