All my priors get shattered when I chat with @JustJake every month.. > how to scale > how to sell > how to hire > how to build @Railway is an n of 1 company that’s because Jake runs it HIS way. This podcast is a good listen on what makes him and the company truly special!
Railway started the year at $20M ARR. It’s now ~$100M. Solo founder. Fully remote. Only ~40 people. The one trait that explains why Railway is breaking all the rules: “It’s almost like cheating on your homework when you go and look at somebody else’s solution. If this is how Stripe does this or this is how Cursor does this, I don’t want to hear about it.” Jake Cooper (@justjake). Founder and CEO of @Railway. Knuckle Up ↓ -- In this conversation with Jake Cooper: 00:00 Who is Jake Cooper? 02:54 How did Railway survive losing $500K a month? 06:01 What made Railway’s growth chart go vertical? 09:45 Why won’t Jake look at how other companies solve problems? 14:34 Is two the worst number of co-founders? 20:04 How does a 40-person team hit $100M in ARR? 22:41 Why does Railway say no to 90% of ideas? 28:55 How do you compete for talent against the AI labs? 32:25 What does a technical interview look like after Opus 4.5? 35:34 Trust, clarity, judgment: how does Railway’s six-week onboarding work? 44:59 What does HARD stand for, and which value costs the most? 48:49 Why does Jake go dark from Friday night to Sunday? 54:54 What breaks first in a world with 10,000x more software? 59:49 Where does Railway play in two years? 1:01:37 How has Jake had to grow as a CEO? 1:09:29 Is burnout just an input-output mismatch? 1:12:27 Why does Jake think most startup advice is overrated?

🗞️ if your team is too busy doing their 'normal job' to experiment with AI, you're preparing them to be replaced ghuntley.com/replaced/ In this post, I guess this's the last time I'll say it. AI use is no longer optional if you wish to be employed. What follows is advice for current employees and hiring managers on how to hire in 2026 to source AI-first candidates.

Satya Nadela is basically describing the death of the traditional SaaS model. Explains the AI agentic future, and where the "value" lives. Because business logic is moving from the software application to the AI agents. Currently, you buy software for its specific features and rules. Nadella argues that in the future, software apps will essentially become dumb databases ("CRUD") or simple tools. The AI Agent will hold all the intelligence, orchestration, and reasoning, simply updating the databases as needed. The software becomes a commodity; the AI becomes the "brain" and the worker. I’m not asking you, I’m telling you. Take a moment and listen to this 81 second response from Victor Glover after being asked if he had any thoughts leading up to Easter. I don’t quite think it can be overstated how perfect this crew is for the job.

.@pmarca breaks down his reading diet: "I have an almost perfect barbell strategy, which is: I read X and I read old books." "It's either up-to-the-minute what's happening right now, or it's a book that was written 50 years ago that has stood the test of time." With @lennysan
My information consumption is now 1/4 X, 1/4 podcast interviews of the smartest practitioners, 1/4 talking to the leading AI models, and 1/4 reading old books. The opportunity cost of anything else is far too high, and rising daily.

PMs don’t just ship features. They kill them. Shipping isn’t the job. Shipping the right product is. A great PM doesn’t fall in love with the roadmap. They fall in love with the problem and have the guts to say: This isn’t solving it. This adds complexity. This doesn’t matter. Every feature, setting, UI, element should fight to exist. At Nest, we had one rule: If you can’t explain why it matters, it doesn’t ship. You had to tell us the why. The reason a real person would care. That one rule killed dozens of features.

This is amazing!
Indian gov't is buying a subscription to 13,000 academic journals, and then making them all available to "18 million students, faculty, and researchers" for free. The cost is $715 million over 3 years. It includes Elsevier, Nature, and AAAS. Have any other countries done this?
