The journal of the American Academy of Psychotherapists is accepting papers for our 2027 issue. It is a great venue with an audience that understands that effective therapy is not only about knowledge & technique, but also about the therapist as a person. bit.ly/4hMhVsL

For the 2027 issue, the journal’s theme is Honesty and Dishonesty: The Things We Never Say. We will also consider strong articles on other subjects related to psychotherapy, so don’t let the issue theme deter you from submitting work unrelated to this year’s call for submissions.

New Year's resolutions come from a great place - wanting something different for ourselves & trying to get there. Yet, they are hard to keep. Understanding why can help us approach our hopes & plans in a way that is more likely to lead to outcomes we want. open.substack.com/pub/lotusa…

What does it take to build a community where everyone belongs? Dayton Democracy Fellow Tara Campbell says it starts with education, agency, and uplifting the voices too often left out, especially young people. KF President and CEO Sharon L. Davies kicks off today’s #DaytonDemocracySummit with a powerful reminder about why our collective work matters. “One of the themes for today’s convening is hope. . . . We thought that we should focus on hope because hope is necessary for us to move toward action, and action will be necessary for us to save our democracy, if our democracy is actually in danger.”

“When people hear the word democracy, they think about elections, voting, elected officials, campaigns. . . . But those things aren’t all that democracy is. Democracy means that everyone belongs, and that all of us should have a say in our communities, state, and nation.” When it comes to purpose, Julio Mateo, program associate for Democracy and Community, helps ground us in the intention behind today’s #DaytonDemocracySummit.

So excited about @KetteringFdn Dayton Democracy Fellow Lake Miller and NCCJ's work with our young people!
“Youth are not the leaders of tomorrow; they’re the leaders of today.” Through NCCJ: Nurturing Community, Cultivating Justice, Lake Miller helps young people find their voice and use it to build healthier, more inclusive communities across Dayton. As a Dayton Democracy Fellow, he’s showing how empowering youth leadership strengthens democracy now, not later. bit.ly/4q61sRG

The real power isn’t just in the streets or the ballot box. It’s in civil society: the everyday spaces where people connect, organize, build trust, and grow the skills of citizenship.
