We have been devastated to learn of the passing of five much loved members of the Chester FC family over recent days. The loss of Michelle Banks, Alan Vincent, and Nigel Clarke, who all volunteered at the Deva Stadium for many years, and lifelong supporters Allan Pemberton and Peter Povey, has deeply affected the football club. Michelle Banks, wife of Director Jeff Banks, very sadly passed away yesterday following a brave battle with an incurable brain tumour since late last year As well as being the loving wife to Jeff and caring mother to Alfie and Harry, Michelle dedicated her time to the Blues as a volunteer during the early years of our reformation as a phoenix club. Yesterday we also received the sad news of the sudden passing of Alan Vincent, who was a valued member of our Legends Lounge team. Alan provided a warm and friendly face at the Deva on matchdays, welcoming our Legends Lounge and Boardroom guests at each game. Nigel Clarke, another one of our dedicated volunteers, has also very sadly passed away. Nigel was a regular on the Hipkiss Express away travel bus and could be found in and around the ground selling 50/50 tickets on a matchday. We have also been informed of the sad passing of Allan Pemberton and Peter Povey after battles with illness. Allan was a lifelong supporter and season ticket holder, who also played for Chester under Manager John Harris. He passed away last Sunday at the age of 89. Peter too followed the Blues throughout his life and was a season ticket holder in the East Stand, sharing many memories at the Deva alongside his son, Mark. On behalf of everyone at Chester FC, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Michelle, Alan, Nigel, Peter and Allan. In such difficult circumstances and in support of all those impacted by these losses, the club will come together to remember Michelle, Alan, Nigel, Peter and Allan by observing a minute’s silence prior to Tuesday’s game against Oxford City.

I feel so sorry for the poor lady who sadly passed away on Lower Bridge St this morning and her family and friends. I was on my way to the ShareShop by the Magistrates Court and saw all the police officers running out of the Court building to try to get to her as fast as they could. It really made me think about those officers, running towards what was probably the worst thing many of them would’ve ever witnessed. Huge respect to you all @cheshirepolice @PoliceChester @NHSNW who attended that terrible scene today. You all deserve our support, appreciation and respect 💚.

It’s just a pub… But my chef needs his job to feed his family. It’s just a pub… But Larry comes in every night because he lives alone and want company. It’s just a pub… But the butcher relies on us to pay his rent. It’s not just a pub! You see? – at Cheltenham, England

The 9000 who never made it home, 1944 This is an art piece dedicated to those who died on D-day. It was designed by Andy Moss and Jamie Wardley. It was created with the help of volunteers. It shows outlines of dead soldiers who died both attacking and defending the beaches of Normandy. The art piece was made in 2013. D-day is one of the most infamous land invasions of all time. It consisted of American, British, Canadian, and other allied troops attacking the heavily defended coast of Normandy, France. It was divided into 5 different beaches codenamed Juno, Utah, Gold, Sword, and Omaha. The deadliest of all was Omaha. The Germans thought the Allies would land at Calais, as it is closest to Britain, but the Allies chose Normandy to trick the Germans. 9000 men lost their lives. Before the invasion, Allied planes dropped 13,000 bombs at the coastal defenses, but they all missed their targets, especially at Omaha Beach, which led to the highest death toll at 2,400. The bombs were meant to damage and destroy the coastal defenses, however, many of them missed, and the invasion had to go ahead as the weather conditions were good. The invasion was actually meant to begin prior to June 6th, but bad weather conditions delayed the attack. D-day saw Allied troops storm the beaches in a desperate attempt to overrun the German defenses, all while a huge and intense amount of German machine gun fire rained down upon them. The Allies succeeded in their mission.

Scotlands Deputy First Minister has today called for a cut in VAT, to boost Hospitality and Tourism. We need all party’s to commit to this. A cut in VAT is the lifeline that would save the struggling sector.

At £11.50 with £4ph of tips minimum, my businesses loose the ability to offer promotional wage rises. With this goes much of the motivation needed to develop teams. Our typical consumer will not accept price rises. Only with the wipeout of hospitality or 10% VAT can this change
