'MBUYA NEHANDA' GIVES MNANGAGWA'S GOVERNMENT A BRUTAL REALITY CHECK IN LAKE KARIBA Warning that the heroes of Zimbabwe did not fight for a state that cannot keep its people alive on their own lakes and roads. BY RTD DIO SHEPHERD MPESWE If the world wants to know the true state of Zimbabwe, it should not look at the glitz and glamour at state functions nor the choreographed ribbon‑cuttings but it should look at what is happening in our public spaces, where ordinary people live, travel, work and die. This time, Mbuya Nehanda, in Lake Kariba gave the country a brutal reality check. I mean, the government‑owned passenger ferry, Mbuya Nehanda, operated by the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA, formerly DDF), capsized near Long Island. Initial reports indicate that at least 95 people were on board. Accidents do happen the world over, yes. Storms rise, waves hit, engines fail but if the world were to see the actual condition of this government‑owned vessel and the visibly overloaded state in which it departed, it would ask a simple question, " why was this ferry ever allowed to leave the shore ? " I mean we are talking about a government vessel, on a route that is critical to the lives of mostly rural Zimbabweans, transporting food, medicine, schoolchildren and workers. Yet hat lifeline is being run on worn‑out equipment, lax standards and a collapsed sense of responsibility that is prone to greed and corruption. I do applaud the efforts of all individuals, agencies and the private sector who are involved in the rescue operation but my caution to them is that they should not cease their search and rescue operations whilst relying heavily on the ticketed figures of passengers as it is very possible that, given the state of the Zimbabwean economy, the boat crew members could have taken on board a lot more of unticketed passengers for quick cash. This is not an isolated practice. It is rampant across the public sector resulting in systems of safety and regulation being quietly surrendered to desperation and hustling. It is unfortunate that under the Mnangagwa Presidency, neglect has since become state policy and the Kariba tragedy is the logical outcome of a governing culture that has normalised neglect in all public spaces. Look around the country. Our roads have become death traps. Our buses and commuter omnibuses are ramshackle, unroadworthy and overloaded. Our railway system has been abandoned and neglected for far too long. Our sewer systems spill into communities, creating permanent health hazards. Our power supply is unstable, unreliable and dangerously managed. Our water infrastructure is failing, forcing millions to live at the mercy of shallow boreholes and unsafe wells. Everywhere the poor travel, queue and dwell, the state has quietly withdrawn from its most basic obligations. Public amenities and utilities are grossly neglected by a government that is more interested in awarding billions in state funds to politically connected individuals under the banner of “empowerment” and “prosperity.” The Kariba ferry disaster is a physical manifestation of this moral collapse. Instead of investing in safe boats, trained crews, reliable safety equipment and robust regulation, funds are diverted to luxury cars, mansions and glittering patronage schemes. A few days ago during the Heroes Day commemorations, Chris Mutsvangwa declared that the most fitting tribute to the country’s liberation heroes is the “delivery of prosperity and development” as the reward for their sacrifice. On paper, it is a neat line. In reality, it is a cruel joke and typical of the Mnangagwa administration. All verbose and bling, while nothing is done to safeguard public lives in the actual spaces where citizens experience the state, on the roads, in hospitals, buses, water taps and ferries on Lake Kariba. 1 of 2 @LynneStactia @advocatemahere @RUMBIEPROPERTIE @MviringiHosia @kerinamujati @noto2030 @Muswatadzi

I'm not really his fan but sign of selflessness is when he took power and kept it for a few days then he handed it over to another man. I mean where in the world have you ever seen that? Kudos to him.

I listened carefully to that sham of an interview between Simba Chikanza and Mary Mubaiwa. It is a story told by a fool, full of loud, dramatic emotion which ultimately have an effect of corroding the character of the teller rather than the target of the diatribe. Anyone who believes the scorned woman has a serious problem with information processing. The smear campaign was not just poorly done, it was too long to manage a clear narrative. From the beginning, it broke the framework of effective propaganda- keeping things short. The basic rule is never to make a propaganda piece that long. You risk contradictions and there are many in Mary and Simba's diatribe. Let me note, for you, the things I found interestingly inconsistent. (1) Mary Mubaiwa tried to blame VP Chiwenga for not allowing her to go to China for treatment, or an equally pathetic Simba Chikanza pushed her to, but Mary inadvertently reveals that the China medical trip was President Mnangagwa's initiative, never VP Chiwenga's. The ploy to blame VP Chiwenga was obviously the narrative that Simba wanted to push yet his interviewee clearly stated that the arrangement for VP Chiwenga to go to China was @edmnangagwa's. ED is the one who initially lied to Mary that she would follow her husband to China after two weeks. ED provided, according to Mary, a plane to carry Mary from SA to Zimbabwe but was evasive when it came to arranging her trip to China for her to see her husband and possibly, get treated herself. We are not told the reasons why, we can only speculate. Mary also, despite her claim that she had money and that VP Chiwenga was sending her money from his sick bed in China, couldn't organize her own travel to China to be with her sick husband but waited on an uncooperative Mnangagwa yet she wants to blame VP Chiwenga for her predicament. VP Chiwenga was very sick at the time to an extent, according to Mary, ED had to organize his airlifting from SA to China. The VP didn't arrange this for himself. I therefore find it very inconsiderate and inconsistent for anyone to try and blame him for not facilitating Mary's treatment in China. If there is anyone who neglected Mary's condition, it is ED. ED saw it fit to organize a plane to transport Mary back to Zimbabwe rather than facilitating her treatment in South Africa, if she was sick then, as she claims. (2) Mary also gives out that VP Chiwenga spent $195k on her treatment. Surely a cruel man wouldn't do that, would he? So Chiwenga could spent such money on a person he wanted dead? Does that make sense? That's some serious inconsistences in the poor propaganda narrative by Simba, Mary and their handlers. (3) The Pethidine narrative. I wouldn't want to assume I know that the VP abused or didn't abuse the painkiller but what I find funny is that Mary wants us to believe she was forced also to take the drug. For starters, Mary herself acknowledges that VP Chiwenga wasn't her boss, but an equal, her husband. She even assumes he doesn't think for himself and she was the smarter one in the relationship, so how come the smarter one was persuaded to abuse the painkiller? Remember she says she wasn't taking the drugs when she was pregnant. She would take a break. Why then didn't she take a break for good considering she was the smarter one in the relationship? 3) Mary admits the VP "is a very good person" and "very prayerful". That is inconsistent with the person she is now accusing of wanting to kill her through arranged car collisions. It is clear the narrative of a cruel Chiwenga has been crafted, by Mary and whoever is behind the smear campaign, to diminish VP Chiwenga's standing as a possible successor to ED. That is very clear. What is foolish is using a scorned woman. Mary makes it apparent she is not just fighting an ex-husband, she is fighting his career, his ambitions and his prospects of being President. It is a proxy political war clothed as a domestic dispute. Her attempt to blackmail the VP is clear. She professes that she is keeping 'dirty secrets' in exchange for properties, what a shame! For me, the key take away from Mary's narrative is that VP Chiwenga, despite his suspicions that his then estranged wife wanted to kill him, had the heart to spent $195k on her treatment. That's a good man for me, all day! The other takeaway is that President Mnangagwa is a dishonest "bamukuru" who shamelessly played Mary in her hour of need. How he played Mary until a compassionate unnamed individual from his office chose to inform Mary of his antics makes sad reading. It betrays some mischief, if not evil, from a person the victim considered family-"bamukuru". The other takeaway is that the diatribe is part of a bitter succession war in Zanu-PF, not just a domestic dispute that spilt into the public sphere. Anyone who cares to listen to Mary's diatribe on Chikanza's poorly done interview can see that the purpose for the interview is to farm public indignation on the VP and thwart his pro-people persona that he has built within Zanu-PF and the country at large by using a bitter ex to spew vitriol, even lies, with the hope that her former proximity would validate whatever claim she is making now. Surely, if the VP was hooked to pethidine, a responsible wife should have helped him off it, not join him on that path to destruction, isn't it? And if VP Chiwenga was as cruel as we are being told, why would he spent $195k footing medical bills for someone he wanted dead? Kuita bhasikiti raTizirai rinoti uku rinorukwa, uku richirudunurwa? What we cannot ignore is the bitterness and desperation exuded by Mary. Her bitterness betrays the motive for the poorly done smear campaign. Her attempt to ridicule VP Chiwenga for his dialect influence and native language phonological interference in his use of the /l/ and /r/ phonemes shows how base the bitterness is. It is the most ridiculous attacks I have seen on the VP for now. It is not only childish, but it shows the desperation and the extent to which Mary is going in attacking the VP. Anyway, we are in the season. The VP declared a war against zvigananda, the monied crooks who are hell-bent on capturing Zanu-PF, the state and government, it is quite predictable the charlatans are using anything at their disposal to fight VP Chiwenga and his anti-corruption crusade, including a bitter ex. They are not short of willing participants in this journey. Mary has joined them. For her, ishaisano, typical of a scorned woman. What I know, though, is that it is difficult to keep a good man down. #IchakwanaNguvaNazvinoYatokwana #Elections2028 #PasiNeZvigananda

Those of us who know the real truth, know that the mission that saved Kabila and returned him to his palace and pushed back the rebels was commanded by an ex Zipra Colonel. The heroic stories have completely erased him. It's not just liberation history being rewritten.

The Vice President has spoken plainly, without riddles. The Mnangagwa government has lost its way, abandoning the promises made to Zimbabweans in 2017 when it took over from Mugabe. Leadership derives its legitimacy from the people. Its purpose is to serve them, not to serve itself. Zimbabweans, while leadership is necessary, you cannot subcontract your freedom to one person. It will take every single one of us to free ourselves from the Mafidi albatross. Our freedom is our collective responsibility.

Defecting to ZANU-PF Is Not a Hiding Place Here is a ZANU-PF activist known as Kobo making what he describes as prophetic allegations that Bishop Nyamakanga abuses his wife. This is one of the hurdles many opposition activists face after defecting to ZANU-PF. Those already within the party often become jealous, particularly because high-profile opposition defectors sometimes secure government positions more easily than long-serving party members. Just a few months after Bishop Nyamakanga defected to ZANU-PF and publicly supported CAB 3, some within the party are now claiming that his mental health is deteriorating. They are also making serious criminal allegations against him and labelling him a false prophet. This demonstrates that defecting to ZANU-PF does not necessarily guarantee political protection, acceptance or immunity from attacks by fellow party members.
