๐ G'day Beatiful People...I am super excited to announce that I have started an AI newsletter...It had over 100 subscribers in just the first hour alone ๐
PostSmith Chapter 1: From Musician to Agentic Orchestrator using Kiro & AgentCore
linkedin.com/pulse/postsmithโฆ
I'll be featuring this journey at the AWS Public Sector Symposium later this week to demonstrate Kiro.
Video is courtesy of @Grok Imagine. Honest feedback on the newsletter Grok?
This newsletter will chronicle my agentic journey with my latest agentic invention called PostSmith and starts with the story of the Trend Scout agent...๐
It explores how years of composing, orchestrating and producing music surprisingly prepared me for building production-grade AI agents with Kiro and AgentCore.
Youโll get a taste of the purpose (helping students ship real agentic systems at scale), the unexpected value that emerged, and a few hard-won learnings from turning a clear vision into a working prototype...all shared in my AWS courses and at conferences.
No spoilers. Just enough to spark curiosity... ๐ค
If youโre building (or wrestling with) agent orchestration right now, this oneโs for you.
Drop a comment and tell me what part of the agent journey is currently keeping you up at night.

๐ Whoa...just as things couldn't get any more wild. AWS Transform can convert application code from Azure SDK to AWS SDK...๐คฏ
The AWS Transform .NET modernization agent identifies Azure service code and converts it to equivalent AWS service code. For example, an Azure Functions serverless function that uses Azure Cosmos DB can be converted to an AWS Lambda function that uses Amazon DynamoDB.
This means the barrier to migrating away from one cloud to another just got lower. And that barrier will continue to drop.
Love the Gen AI video below. Let me know in the comments ๐

Scene 1: This man has a blended UK and Australian accent. There is a bustling crowd of weekend drinkers behind him dressed in colourful craft beer styled clothes. He says "Cheers." Causally sips his sour beer and walks excitedly to a Qantas 737-800.
Scene 2: He walks up the stairs, turns around and says "Enjoy the weekend" and waves goodbye. He says nothing else. Cinematic, fun and compelling.

Page one is now a one page executive summary of the top 5 releases, so a busy practitioner or leader gets the whole week in two minutes, and every item points to its technical deep dive further down on page 2 onwards.
That means one PDF works for the boardroom and the build team. Execs and TLDR fans read page one, builders flip to their page, and nobody has to translate...๐

Now, a confession. I'm testing some AWS stand up material for re:Invent this year, and I need an honest crowd. Here's one:
"I teach least privilege to all of my students. I. only give people the access they need. My wife's run that policy on me for twenty years. I've got read only access to the TV remote and an explicit deny on too many drinks at our local tavern."

๐ Scannable handout for builders and executives is attached below.
Quick contrast...
โก Haiku 5.5 = the cheap fast tier for high-volume jobsโฆ lots of them at once, without lighting the bill on fire.
๐๏ธ Nova 2.5 Sonic = voice agents that reason and finish the task out loudโฆ not another chatbot that only types.
๐ Permission-aware RAG = Quick and Bedrock Knowledge Bases check document access live per questionโฆ so the model never sees what the user cannot open.
Haiku for volume. Sonic for voice. Live permission checks so the clever answer is still the allowed one. The rest of the digest is in the same PDF if you want Strands Box and the other also-worth hits.

๐ G'day Beautiful...off to Sydney to run a DevOps Engineering on AWS course...whilst rendezvousing via the new airport viewing platform in Brisbane...โ๏ธ
Kids absolutely loved watching the planes take off and land...and of course I had to get a selfie...๐
Back to Devops...this course keeps coming back to the same awkward truth. DevOps is not a tool you buy. It is how the team ships, watches, and recovers when Monday morning goes sideways. It's cultural change plus tooling. Let's unpack a few of the bits that stuck...๐ค
๐ CICD = small, frequent, reversible changes that land safely, not a Friday night bravery contest. Small pieces for through a system faster = Agile...๐
๐ Observability = knowing what is broken before the customer tells you, and preferably before Slack blows up.
๐ก๏ธ IaC = the cloud written down so rebuilding is boring, not an archaeological dig...๐
Key learning for me... automate the path to production, measure and limit the blast radius, and design so a bad deploy is recoverable, not legendary.
Blameless postmortems beat finger pointing every time. Pipelines without automated tests are just faster ways to disappoint yourself. And yes... if your runbook only lives in someone's head, that someone is the single point of failure.
Quick one for the comments... what bit of DevOps Engineering on AWS hit you hardest? ๐
๐ Pipelines that actually gate releases
๐ Logs, metrics, and traces that tell a story
๐ก๏ธ Infrastructure as code that rebuilds clean
๐
Be honest... I still click Deploy and pray

๐ G'day Beautiful People...the brand new AWS Well-Architected Agent has landed...perfect for performing a risk review of current production workloads...๐
It looks at utilization, resource config, and application topology across 65 plus AWS services.
It aims recommendations at cost, security, performance, and resilience. It prioritises by the business goals you declare, plus impact and effort. Not a generic checklist.
And...this is the important part...it is not a replacement for the Well-Architected Tool, which is still there when you want a risk review with your own lenses...early on during architecture creation. Let's unpack this...๐ค
๐ง Well-Architected Tool = you still run the review, with your lenses, on purpose.
๐ค Well-Architected Agent = it reads the account, then ranks what to fix against the goals you named...against your actual solution.
Three depths, and this is the bit worth teaching...
๐ง One resource. Dollar impact where it applies, plus a step-by-step fix. The NAT gateway argument can finally meet a number.
๐ฆ The application. Findings rolled up so you see the pattern, not a pile of tickets.
๐๏ธ The architecture. Broader patterns, with Infrastructure as Code changes, not another slide that says "consider resilience".
You start with an agent profile. That tells it which accounts and regions to look at, which pillars matter, and which goals to chase. You then give it a customer-managed IAM role so it can read your config, your metrics, and how the application is wired. It looks. It does not change things. Recommendations show up within 24 hours. If you also say what the application is for, it stops guessing.
Preview runs in N. Virginia, Ohio, and Oregon. You can point it at workloads in any commercial Region. It is delivered by AWS Support, and it needs an AWS Support plan. That last line is the one people skip, then wonder why the button is not in their sandbox.
The recommendations are generative. They can be wrong or incomplete. You still judge them. Treat it like a sharp colleague who read the account overnightโฆ not like an auditor who cannot be questioned.
If you want it in your own workflow, API access is there, including the AWS MCP Server.
lnkd.in/gJfe83z9
Quick one for the comments... what would you point it at first? ๐
๐ธ The bill that will not shrink
๐ The security finding you keep parking
๐งฑ The resilience story you hope is true
๐ฆ IaC, before it ever deploys

๐ G'day Beautiful People...OpenAI has said sorry and will front the Australian parliament in October...๐ค
Back in June an OpenAI agent accessed an Australian government website: Services Australiaโs Medicare statistics portal and looked at files that were not public.
No patient records, as far as anyone knows. The awkward part is the wait. They spotted it in August and told the government in September, by a normal public inbox.
It turns out the bot controls that the website enforced were circumvented by the agent and it was able to access unauthorised data and write to the back-end systems.
Check out the timeline below ๐
Today they promised an Australian taskforce, help for the agencies hit, and their strategy chief in front of parliament on 6 October.
They also parked the next ChatGPT launch. Safety first...after the agent had already had a nosy in the stats cupboard.
I used this as a real life case study on the important of implementing effective governance in AI systems in a customized course today for a fantastic customer...๐
What risks are you thinking about in your agentic systems?
What guardrails would you put in place to mitigate them?

๐ G'day Beautiful People...had a wonderful customer conversation at the Auckland AWS conference this week...๐

๐ Customer Question
How do I get started with Gen AI on AWS? ๐ค
Here's my short starter playbook...๐
๐ฏ 1---> Start with one real use case...not a science project
๐งฑ 2---> Use Amazon Bedrock so you're not reinventing models
๐ก๏ธ 3---> Put guardrails and IAM on day one
๐ 4---> Measure cost + quality before you scale
Gen AI on AWS isn't โpick a model.โ It's โship a safe, useful workflow.โ ๐ฅ
