UPDATE: On the detention of the woman journalist - Drish - who was detained earlier, Angad Mehta, the police official we were arguing with says he had no idea she was a journalist! And that he will order her release.

Good scientists would have to get into philosophical questions too but our edu system isn’t geared toward it. Simply coz we don’t have time, we needed large manpower to fuel industrialization in our early years, way to get that was an easy solution oriented study of sciences./5

I see Engineering undergrad education in US and it is such a completely different thing than what I got in India! There's a distinct lack of default sadism & meanness in the faculty or senior students. Openness to questions, new ideas, & of course a more well rounded curriculum.

India is a great example, where kids mostly (assumption) urban, UC who aspire to end up in biz, research, IAS or tech jobs in India or abroad. Remember, significant chunk of our power structures are also owned by these people who on surface seem to prioritize STEM education. /3
