I paginated the source the obvious way: limit=200, then offset=200, then 400.
It returned 200 rows every time. Same 200 rows every time.
offset is ignored. So is cursor, page, skip, start and after. limit is silently
capped — ask for 5,000 and you get 200, with no error and no warning.
Eleven pages of the same markets summed to a number that looked entirely
plausible. It was wrong by 11×.
What caught it was the source's own totals endpoint disagreeing with my sum.
Not a test — I had not thought to write that test, because I had not imagined
this failure.
I examined 200 live key markets. Five tests each, every one computed from the
market's own on-chain state.
10 survive. 190 do not.
The median market holds 0.2069 SOL. One curve holds 41.9% of everything.
That is 200 of the 2,060 curves that exist 9.7%. Not a sample I chose: the
source caps every response at 200 rows and ignores offset, so this describes
what it will show and nothing beyond it.
The reference protocol's own documentation says the price is n² / 16,000 SOL,
"where n is the supply after the sale of the nth key."
The chain does not behave that way. Its reserves hold the sum up to n−1, which
means n is the supply BEFORE the sale, and the first key costs 0² = nothing.
Implement from their published sentence and you over-quote every trade by one
full step of the staircase. Not by a rounding error by a whole rung.
It looks perfectly reasonable. That is the problem with it.
These markets price a key at k² / 16,000 SOL, where k is the supply before the
sale. Sum the staircase and a market's reserve is not something it reports it is the only number its supply permits:
reserve(n) = 62,500 · (n−1)·n·(2n−1) / 6 lamports
1e9 / 16,000 is 62,500 exactly, so it never leaves the integers. No rounding,
no drift, nothing to disagree about.
I held it against 2,200 live markets on Solana.
2,200 exact, to the lamport. Zero misses.
Any social account can be listed on a keys market, and listing is free.
So the listing count grows without limit while almost none of them can be
traded. You cannot leave a market whose entire reserve is a rounding error there is nobody on the other side.
A listing is not a market. Docimasy runs the assay and says which is which.
