Suggests that the banning of masks, aided by some AI searches on videos from the scenes of the crimes, would stop the violent burning and looting by the extremists, and help the genuine protestors.
LIMOGES UPDATE: Second suspect, male, 66, arrested by RAID elite police in connection with torching/destruction of Limoges town hall early this morning. Thought to be part of same ultra-left circles as first suspect, 34, also arrested by RAID (on Tuesday), identified by images of him on the scene, including protesters' own videos. He is on the "fiché S" security watch list as an ultra-left activist. Previously convicted of hitting a police officer at a 2024 protest. Custody has been extended by 48 hours, to the 96-hour maximum. Any charges could include the attempted murder of police, since 13 municipal police officers were inside the town hall at the time.

If anything indicates the delusional middle-classes, it's this mother (ex-teacher and activist) with her daughter in Glasgow. Dressed to the nines, parroting the usual BS... OK with them expressing themselves, as long as they are OK with the ridicule... the daughter is foolishly young, the mother just foolish...
Zamard Zahid, Glasgow anti-racism campaigner and alleged school teacher, posted a video with her daughter saying we need “violent revolution” against imperialism and colonialism. “I’m very pro-revolution, we need not just revolution but we need violent revolution… you can’t get anywhere against imperialism and colonialism without violence, we need to get organised.” She doesn’t correct her daughter. This is open talk of organised violence. If a teacher or parent from the other side said the same thing, they’d be arrested before the video finished uploading. Why is this different? These are enemies of democracy and our whole way of life and in my view they are inciting violence.

57% of U.S. college students are using artificial intelligence in their coursework at least weekly, including about one in five who say they use it daily. How they use it is ithe point ... essentially as support and scaffolding tutor.... which I suspect is exactly what they do not get from faculty....

Right question on criteria for saying something is conscious... Dawkins also, rightly I think, sees the stromg rejection of consciousness as a product of our desire to see ourselves as 'unique'.

RED FLAG - neat AI tool for EDI...
Most EDI policies aren't wrong on values. But good intentions can lead to policies that go beyond the law. The law has moved: the Supreme Court ruling, the EHRC Code, and new free speech duties for universities. RED FLAG checks your policies against it. DM me for a free look.

"Edinburgh University spokesperson confirmed that the institution had decided to "close four programmes within the Edinburgh Futures Institute to new entrants from the 2027-28 academic year." EFI starting look like something white, with a trunk? archive.is/20261020220131/ht…

In many other countries the head of state would have resigned. Not in France and the EU. The technocrats are rule, anti-democratic by nature and hang on until the system breaks. Why not shorten the working day at school, reallocate the ridiculous pension schemes towards younger people? Just another 'consultation'. and other 'report'. TBH much the same here now. Useless 'kick can down road' reports.

Truly banal address to the nation. We have consulted academics who will write a report.... no solutions, only evasion... a hollow man...

On panel at Battle of ideas with a Comedian, Lord, Mathematician and Freedom of speech bod. All good spirited. Although people love to take refuge in big abstract nouns like wisdom, creativity etc

Israel is complicit in this brutal ethnic cleansing. Zionism has employed this species of fascism for some time.
Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine was brutally attacked by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank today. Heidi is the best of the best – a badass American war photographer I've had the pleasure of working with many times in the West Bank. These settlers, and the IDF soldiers who stood by and did nothing as they beat Heidi, must be held accountable. washingtonpost.com/world/202…

Did the historian Helen Carr on R4 just confuse Herodotus with Thucydides?

Today I saw the first flying car. It got from 0-16 in 0.81 seconds and took off, albeit for a few seconds. Those who simply have a deep hatred of Elon Musk will dismiss everything, blind people seeing, paraplegics functioning, a revolution in communications, astonishing breakthroughs in medicine, success in AI tutoring, electric cars contributing towards saving the planet and the possibility of accelerating research and practical solutions to problems in any field. This is churlish and childishly naïve. The flying car shifts the world from 2-dimensional to 3-dimensional transport, without the need for a driver. This revolutionises the delivery of anything; people and goods. Freight and emergency services will come first, then air shuttles on key routes. It is not that cars will disappear, but transport networks will have trains, planes, driverless taxis and air shuttles. Eventually, we may not even need roads. Travel, at some point, will not require the private ownership of a vehicle and will take place within an AI managed 3-dimensional space. Why does this matter? Since the invention of the combustion engine, a complicated and expensive series of polluting explosions using fossil fuels, 55 million people have been sacrificed, killed in horrible mangled bloody deaths on our roads, many of them innocent pedestrians, cyclists and passengers in cars that did no wrong. That’s three times the number of people who died in the first world war. This coming year well over a million people will died on our roads. It is a war level massacre. That’s not to count the much larger number who suffer life changing and other injuries. Over 30 percent of UK emissions comes from transport. If you are even remotely interested in climate change, you should welcome the fact that electric cars are now commonplace. Driverless taxis are operating in many cities and countries. The Cybercab is not after Uber’s market but driving itself. I have never driven a car and look forward to the day when I can be driven, safely, at negligible cost, without being ripped off, anywhere, at any time. This morning I was also reading a Google paper on AI beating Doctors on clinical decision making and Great Ormond Street’s AI interpreted infection test machine that will change the world forever, saving many, many lives. I work in this field and have never been so excited about the future than I am today.
