The IEEE Fellows Process is the model for the technical profession which recognizes “significant technical contribution” to the profession and society of members.
The total number selected in any one year does not exceed 1/10 of 1% of the total voting Institute membership.
It is Very Difficult to Become an IEEE Fellow!
A Successful Nomination Must Show, without any Doubt, that the Candidate has Made Significant Contributions to the Profession and the Society NOT Just their company!!!
The Selection Process is Complex:
Elevating a person to IEEE Fellow requires the concurrence of three separate groups of IEEE Fellows:
- References
- Pertinent IEEE Technical Society Evaluation Committee
- IEEE Fellow Committee
Each Year Many Worthy Candidates Do Not Get Promoted.....

Post #3, that detail response to @Marriott included the fact that after being a platinum member for 16yrs and gold or higher for 22yrs I did not see any benefits with regard to room versus a normal paying customer.
