Crimson Desert is one of the most technically ambitious games we’ve seen in the last decade, but because it isn’t another linear narrative RPG with the illusion of freedom, it just keeps getting underrated.
The technical wizardry that goes into making a game this mechanically massive is insane. You don’t have to like every part of it, but surely the sheer ambition deserves some recognition?
I get it though…award season is coming up and I can already hear the excuses for why Crimson Desert won't get the recognition it deserves.

We spend so much time talking about wanting developers to innovate and take risks, but then we turn around and reward the same safe, conventional AAA games over and over and over and over.
Crimson Desert isn’t perfect, but I’d much rather see developers attempt something genuinely ambitious and occasionally fall short than just keep making the same games we’ve been playing for the last 15 years. I don’t think that’s a hot take at all…
After six hours with the beefy Charting the Unknown DLC, it seems to add even more to Crimson Desert’s buffet-style approach while doing little to improve existing systems.

as someone who generally enjoys jank ass 1 man project games vibecoding has let some people make interesting stuff that I really enjoy however 1/3
it has created a truly absurd discoverability problem due to the sheer volume of low effort games flooding the internet 2/3
