We were taught that Earth orbits the Sun in a closed circle. In reality, Earth has never returned to the same point in space once in 4.5 billion years.
Right now, the Sun is carrying Earth and every planet around the center of the Milky Way at 230 km/s (828,000 km/h), more than 18,000 kilometers every 80 seconds.
Because the Solar System is tilted 60.2° to the galactic plane and bobs up and down through the galactic disc roughly every 30 million years, the planets trace open 3D corkscrew helices across deep space rather than flat loops.
The last time the Sun stood where it stands today, one Galactic Year (230 million years) ago, the very first dinosaurs were only beginning to appear on Earth. Since forming 4.6 billion years ago, our Sun has completed only 20 laps.

🚨 MARYLAND FALLS 20 SPOTS IN NATIONAL JOBS RANKING — WES MOORE’S ECONOMIC RECORD FACES ANOTHER SETBACK
Gov. Wes Moore continues promoting Maryland as a destination for businesses and workers. But the latest economic numbers tell a far less encouraging story.
WalletHub’s 2026 Best States for Jobs ranking places Maryland 32nd nationally, down from 12th last year, while federal labor figures show 20,100 payroll jobs lost in just two months.
▪️ 20-PLACE COLLAPSE: Maryland dropped from 12th to 32nd in WalletHub’s annual assessment of job opportunities and economic conditions.
▪️ 46TH IN JOB GROWTH: Maryland ranks near the bottom nationally, raising questions about the state’s ability to retain employers and expand employment.
▪️ 40TH IN ECONOMIC ENVIRONMENT: High costs and weak economic indicators weigh down Maryland’s competitiveness.
▪️ 20,100 JOBS LOST: Maryland shed 11,300 payroll jobs in August and another 8,800 in September, according to federal employment figures.
▪️ NEIGHBORS OUTPERFORM MARYLAND: Virginia ranks 22nd and Delaware 27th, both ahead of Maryland.
Moore has been governor since January 2023. He cannot claim credit for economic successes while treating every setback as Washington’s responsibility.
These rankings alone do not establish what caused Maryland’s decline. But they provide another measurable reason to scrutinize Annapolis’s tax, spending and business policies.
How many more jobs must Maryland lose before Moore explains what his administration will change?
