They finally killed the forest at Ross and Washington. It held out longer than most businesses as the corridor has developed.

If you’re not as familiar with the roads in Big Bend National Park — here’s a visualization from the DHS website of how far apart the existing paved park road (Ross Maxwell) is from the new “patrol road” (green). They’re going to do 205 miles of these parallel roads

HAPPENING NOW: Bulldozers are approaching Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park, where DHS has waived every environmental protection and public transparency law for the project. It's all moving forward in in total secrecy, against wishes from all 5 regional sheriffs.

Lots of folks in my comments not sure why people are mad about "just a road" –– there is already a road literally a few hundred feet away that was constructed after extensive environmental and archeological review and even at peak tourist season isn't busy enough to impede patrol
DHS contractors are bulldozing native vegetation inside Big Bend National Park to build a new "patrol road" & "vehicle barriers" beside an existing road across from 1,500-foot cliffs no human or vehicle could ever cross and NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS HAPPENING.
