"In that day," says the Lord of hosts, "everyone will invite his neighbor under his vine and under his fig tree."
- Zec 3:10
One day I'm going to open a community space for coffee, pints, reading, and pipe smoking, and this is going to be the name of it.
My wife is more American than a lot of these goofball CN commenters can ever hope to be, and she's made three more proud Americans since she became one. 😎
I have personal experience with this kind of situation. My wife came to the US on a religious worker's visa and served as a commended worker at a Christian Bible school. Her paperwork was being handled pro bono by a Christian lawyer, but he failed to file her paperwork in time, and the visa was revoked. When she found out about, it was too late to renew, and she was told there would be a five-year cool down period before she could apply again. My wife decided to stay in the US with an expired visa rather than leave the ministry for five years. When we married, it took the involvement of another lawyer who definitely was not pro bono, and a raft of paperwork, including letters to the immigration judges and having to find sponsors. In the end, it took nearly three years and cost us almost five thousand in legal and filing fees, but she got her status cleared and was issued her green card. When her green card was set to expire 10 years later, we opted for citizenship instead, and now she doesn't have to worry about it anymore. Also, the immigration lawyer told us that being in country with a lapsed visa doesn't make one an illegal alien, as you came in legally, but it certainly means you've overstayed your welcome.
Update from the Seys:
“My husband Samuel Sey entered the United States legally and has been working ever since in good faith with a lawyer to obtain permanent legal status. Our family is trying to understand what went wrong in the process. In the spirit of Romans 13, our family fully supports and respects American law and are prayerfully working to get him home through the legal process.”
🐿️ Miles has been free for 16 days, but he still comes down for a snack. The scratch on my wife's cheek in this pic she sent today is one of the reasons why squirrels are poor pets. Their claws are very sharp & they don't discern between running up a tree or running up a face. 🤕
One interesting follow up:
A few years later, we had a friend whose Mexican fiancé was in a similar situation. We were able to share all of our paperwork with him, and he duplicated it page for page for her, including copying the letters our lawyer wrote. It saved them all the legal fees and showed them exactly what they needed to file. So our frustrating experience became a blessing to others.
It’s finished! No more shakymobile. Now to finally sit down and relax for a bit.
Got all the major moving parts from the tire to the transmission replaced… only to find out during the test drive that I damaged the seal between the axle and transmission. Now everything I put back together gets to come apart again. 😤
I found a really cool metal song by a band called Wolves at the Gate and I’m going try to do a little animated short with a clip of it and this drawing.
I tried a couple of different faces, both with his head down and looking slightly away. Ended up staying with the original version. These are the choices that keep me up at night 😂
A 12th grader turned this in.
1 correct answer. 1 incomplete step. 3 incredibly wrong answers. Ughh. Sometimes I really wish I had picked a different profession.
This was fun to play. There's also some cool bonus content if you complete all four moons without running out of fuel.
We're rapidly approaching an era where it will be commonplace to see teachers rolling custom interactive simulations for their classrooms using AI.
