I went to locals when SF4 was young and MVC3 had just dropped and let me tell you, a lot of the OGs were hating on those games with a passion. Same type of stuff you hear on Twitter with every new fighting game that drops. I think the difference is, having convos like that in person is just not the same as this hell hole that is Twitter. The new players wanted to prove the OGs wrong, or would tell them they’re just mad that they suck at the game. This constant negativity on FGC twitter is actually affecting morale and making people want to quit before they even get started imo. That, plus a lot of people play online so they haven’t fully integrated into the community yet so they drop the hobby before they make friends and truly get started. That’s why I’ve been revamping my Discord, I really do want a place where people can focus on improving and getting better at a game (Smash or FGC) without the constant complaining. Criticism is fine, but it has a time and a place.
