COLLINGWOOD OPP REMINDS MOTORISTS TO SLOW DOWN FOLLOWING STUNT DRIVING CHARGE
(Collingwood, ON) - The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding motorists to slow down and exercise patience on local roadways following a recent stunt driving incident involving excessive speed.
Under Ontario's Highway Traffic Act, stunt driving includes travelling 40 km/h or more above the posted speed limit in zones where the speed limit is less than 80 km/h, 50 km/h or more above the posted speed limit in zones where the speed limit is 80 km/h or higher.
On September 17, 2026, officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 26 in the Town of Collingwood when they observed a motorcycle travelling 207 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone.
As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old resident of Ottawa was charged with:
Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed
The driver's license was suspended for 30 days and the motorcycle was impounded for 14 days.
Excessive speed significantly reduces a driver's ability to react to changing road conditions, unexpected hazards, weather conditions, and other traffic on the roadway. Higher speeds also increase stopping distances and greatly increase the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a collision.
The Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP is urging all motorists to obey posted speed limits, drive according to road and weather conditions, and help keep Ontario's roads safe for everyone.
