The logic is the same for congestion and confusion in bike lanes and off street bike paths. There is so much demand that we need more of them. And in a sane world, city officials would see this demand and say “finally, we can reduce support for the ravenous car”.
The takeaway here should be that Chicagoans love street festivals in dedicated pedestrian public spaces, and we don’t have enough of them to fulfill demand

Uh-oh. It’s drizzling this morning on the way to school. I can either ride my bike or take a 4000 pound private living room on wheels. 🤔

The city should pay homeowners to put play equipment on the parkways.

Chicago should pay active trans to run the drive and make it free for everyone.

Just saw this and thought about how @ChicagoDOT just made these illegal.

Same neighborhood + lots of cars = bad Even Republicans agree 😂
A Republican candidate for the Massachusetts House shared this image on Facebook this weekend, apparently to oppose duplexes and ADUs. Housing policy is already difficult to communicate in today’s sensationalized climate. Images perpetuating disinformation like this only serve to manufacture fear and make it harder to have honest conversations about real solutions to Massachusetts very real housing crisis.

Was catching tax fraud the real reason behind the NYC pied-à-terre tax?

The only way we will get livable streets in Chicago is by electing the right aldermen. Chicago BikePAC is going to do that. They announced they are ⅔ of the way towards their initial $100k fundraising goal! Let’s blow past that! Come out to the Campaign Trail party on Thursday September 10th! givebutter.com/campaign-trai…

Things illegal in chicago: - Planted bump outs - Tree houses - Friday morning swim club This is laziness and fear. Wtf.

TIL in chicago it is illegal to build a treehouse on a parkway tree. So many of my wealthy white neighbors say “well, it’s a liability issue”. That’s the same logic that took down Friday Morning Swim Club. Chicago should be a place that explores ways to encourage outdoor play.

Meanwhile in Chicago, @ChicagoDOT just outlawed gardens in our bumpouts.
In Hoboken, by 2024, they built 47 rain gardens to not only mitigate flooding, some of the largest of which can detain up to 26K gallons of rainwater, but also to double as curb extensions as part of their Vision Zero efforts! Hoboken hasn't had a traffic death since 2017!

Do you like safety infrastructure that is also beautiful, community building, supports local ecology, manages stormwater and reduces the urban heat island effect? Then ask your local CDOT demon why the unilaterally outlawed planted bumpouts this year.

The author writes this article as though it is an indictment of Trump’s tariffs. But the real indictment is car culture. When your people say they can’t get food without a car, that’s a problem. Society is broken. nytimes.com/2025/05/04/us/tr… via @NYTimes

“Like, the party of limited government is gonna go out and, ‘say we’re gonna have [a car tax]?’” Maybe the party of limited government should stop being communist for cars. Maybe the party of fiscal responsibility could get drivers to cover their costs. politico.com/live-updates/20…

These vehicles are out of control. Time to ban them. This makes me wonder if the headlines in 1963 read: “bullet kills Kennedy”

When will headline writers stop infantilizing drivers?
