And the king's ban? The uproar got it withdrawn before it ever took effect. Regulars are hard to stop. In Orlando, Shibes turned it into a weekly Tuesday-morning coffee, set up as a recurring event ☕

The regulars built things. Shipping men at Edward Lloyd's coffee house started what became Lloyd's of London. Traders at Jonathan's helped start the London Stock Exchange. Much caffeine. Very empire.

London got its first coffeehouse in 1652. Within a few decades there were hundreds. People called them penny universities: a penny for a cup, and the conversation came free. Merchants, sailors and poets argued on the same benches.

Five years ago, in August 2021, Alex and Bill started brainstorming @MyDoge. Now he says it's official: MyDoge is @dogecoin. Much journey. 🐾 And the first thing he reaches for is process. Bitcoin settles its changes through public BIPs. Ethereum through EIPs. Proposals written down, argued in the open, decided together. Boring? Gloriously. Boring is what lets a community outlive its loudest week. Every pack learns this sooner or later, from the core devs to the smallest local meetup. The drama fades when the rules are visible and nobody gets to decide alone. We're building DuGs on that same instinct. DuGs is an independent, open-source community project, built for @DogeOS. Every DuGs fundraiser runs on its own smart contract, with its goal, end date and payout address set where the whole pack can see them. And governance features are being built, so each DuG can make proposals, vote and shape its own future together. Open source FTW, indeed. 🌕

Whoever said it first was onto something. A plan can be copied in an afternoon. Culture is what a group does again and again until it's simply who they are. You can't download it, and you can't buy it secondhand. Such stubborn. Wow.

There is a famous line: "Culture eats strategy for breakfast." It usually gets pinned on Peter Drucker. Quote sleuths never found it in his writing, and the earliest trace points to a tech research firm's headline from 2000. Culture apparently eats citations too.

Why build a badge nobody can sell? Because it isn't really about the badge. "You saw the path and chose to walk it." That insight can't be bought or sold, and the badge can't be, either.

A smart contract is that same idea, written as code and run on a blockchain. The rules are open for anyone to read. When the conditions are met, it does the thing. No "the treat is in the mail." Much relief.
