Dual Kitsune

First, I acknowledge that taking eight months to complete the commission was unacceptable. My personal circumstances deteriorated about six weeks after it was requested, life was becoming very overwhelming between my 9-5 and personal affairs, and I was lacking the motivation to create due to it. Because she was a friend, I wanted to fulfil my commitment. However, I should have communicated my situation and withdrawn sooner. Despite this, I kept the artwork at the top of my Procreate list to prioritize it whenever I could. I continued refining the sketches and provided WIPs when prompted the first time about the status of it. Although she asked for simple memes, I intended to deliver full illustrations, as I had done for her previously. I did not feel that simply copying and pasting memes was worth charging her for. For context, I am not a commission artist. My VGen is inactive as a seller, and I do not advertise commission services or prices. She requested updates or urged me to complete the work three times, all within the week leading up to this situation. By then, I had already unfollowed her on Twitter because I was uncomfortable with what I perceived as her involvement in drama and did not want it on my timeline. I did not block her elsewhere and remained in her Discord server until she began posting indirectly about the situation. I issued a full refund promptly after a mutual friend shared her message with me. This was the first time I had seen her request one. I was mid stream at the time and had intended to address the matter properly the following day. Streaming is something I enjoy and use to cope with personal difficulties. I apologise if this gave the impression that I did not care. I take responsibility for the delay and my lack of communication. However, the commission was fully refunded, and I did not scam her. I acknowledge that I should have handled the situation sooner, but I disagree with how it was subsequently escalated and portrayed publicly. This has reinforced my decision to distance myself from the situation. I have always been happy to create art for friends voluntarily, but this experience has changed how I view the friendship. She never checked in on me or asked if I was okay, and I ultimately decided to end the friendship. I apologise to everyone disappointed by how I handled this situation. I take responsibility for my shortcomings and will ensure I communicate more appropriately and address any future commitments responsibly.
