At this point I can't tell if he's pro- or anti-Crispr
At the consciousness expo this anti-vax white guy’s reggae track brought the house down. From my new film Gimme Truth, screening Nov 14+19 at DOC NYC.

You have be so much smarter than this to pull off the Harold Bloom schtick
Imagine studying music and being taught that Beethoven's greatest achievement was revealing the class structures of nineteenth-century Europe. That's essentially what happens in far too many English departments.

Happy to announce I built a Greek/English reader site with all the surviving plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, & Aristophanes. Multiple translations for each play; click to parse & define for any Greek word; full Greek & English search. greekdrama.johnhboyer.com

I realize it may not be common knowledge that in 2008 before Glee, Lea Michele debuted her Anthony Bordain inspired travel show where she traveled from Manhattan to Queens as a β€œborough travel junkie” for exactly one (1) episode that has been mostly scrubbed from the internet

I think my fave was the Greek American scientist who went 'I started investigating because I noticed their name was Tyranny-Death...'
When you listen to interviews with people who were suspicious of Theranos, it’s kinda striking how simple their red flags were: not a single paper had been published by Theranos, Liz Holmes had only two semesters of undergrad biology and engineering under her belt, etc

A Queer Theory symposium to decide if the best ever translit scene is the cracking forest ice from Time Is The Thing... or the gratuitous flashback sequence to reassure gentler readers that (for all her big jugs, hips and compassion) Reese really did used to be male

the β€œfucking the text man for texts” tweet is such a good way of bringing up a discussion on how (thinking about) sex work pretty much lays bare the libidinal-economic and metagamic logic of β€œregular” sex and dating and desirability. send tweet

O Lord, I've seen what you've done for others...
There was a chap at Oxford who came up in the 80s to research the 4 year tenure of a Yorkshire bishop. He spent 40 years on it, draining an inheritance left on condition it was spent on his education. Daily Mass (sometimes several times a day), lobster every day at Brown's next to the Oratory (hence the gout), magnificent dinner parties for miscreants, oddballs and grad students, and generous to charity. His fingers were so fat that his signet rings appeared stuck to them. Having spent every last penny, he was evicted from his apartment and became a monk some 3 years ago. No wife, no kids, and I don't think the DPhil ever got finished. Top 5 most eccentric human beings I’ve met in my life. Bless him.

I heard one of the women who ran the DIY orchi shed speak once. Was part of a wider convo about trans elderhood and she said "the 22 yo who has been stripping and building bikes since she was a kid needs to be respected more than the 30-40-50 year old that just bought a Harley".

to be fair that was kinda already present at the start in the anti-psychologist approach of the radical feminists

Somewhere along the line a Sound feminist principle rolled into a hard-hitting slogan ('The personal is political!') metastasized into the indefensible: that romantic interest (and all voluntary bonds of kinship!) are best reduced to political gestures.

If you think about your passions this way its even worse than sacrificing everythingβ€”only your life's simplest yet deepest wellsprings of joy.
