From our guest reporter today:
“We were noticing earlier in the week that their (Oregon’s) offensive line had tendencies that helped us key into run (or) pass and a couple areas we could take advantage of,” said senior linebacker Tate Romney, “and obviously our defensive line was keyed into that. That was one big thing that gave us a big advantage.”
What were those tendencies? “Just their offensive line had a few stance indicators for most of the time run/pass,” said Romney.
Dante Moore’s season appears over for reasons outside his control, while Drew Mehringer’s dismissal looks less like a reaction to Illinois than the final step in a process Oregon had already begun.

After a great conversation with @vmckinley23, I’m blessed to receive an offer from the University of Oregon! 🦆💚💛 #GoDucks #AGTG @AnnaH247 @adamgorney @ChadSimmons_ @DuckTerritory
If you cover a team - a Coordinator Hot board is a thing. Will talk to some contacts later today to get more details, but this hot board is just a breakdown of the most discussed names for Oregon’s offensive coordinator opening, weighing who fits Dan Lanning’s vision, and who has a realistic chance to land the job.

I did not want to be reactionary to the Drew Mehrignger news yesterday - so I let it sit for a while and then composed some thoughts. The Drew Mehringer era is over after seven games, and the numbers show why Oregon could no longer afford to wait for the offense to correct itself.

Today in the Inside Read, the Ducks have six days to absorb an offensive coordinator change, discover an identity, & prepare for a Chip Kelly offense that arrives playing some of the best football Northwestern has ever played.
My initial thoughts:

Today on the Fifth Quarter the problems are familiar. The answers remain elusive.
My initial analysis of what went wrong in Champaign:

Replying to @DuckSports
I know of a fairly young (47 year old) former offensive coordinator at the FBS level who had success that is currently unemployed and familiar with the state of Oregon.
He also knows how to coach QBs.
Would it be weird to see him on the Oregon sidelines? Yes, but the most important question is would he be a solution for at least the rest of this season?
He would certainly be better than what we have seen so far.
Given that Lanning and Smith coached against each other three times @espn do not discount the possibility. Longshot? Maybe. But would be a elreally good hire
The Drew Mehringer era is officially over in Eugene. While the timing of the firing catches some off guard, the reality is the trajectory of this offense required an immediate, drastic pivot.
Tomorrow I will have a full breakdown on why this move had to happen today, the advanced metrics behind the collapse, and what comes next.
Sometimes what we lose is not the end of what we were building, but the beginning of something we could not yet imagine. The difficult part is learning to recognize the difference.

Given the disaster travel day this week from @AmericanAir hopefully they don't fail me again today.
This play made no sense in the moment. It feels like someone was trying to 'prove' they were innovative without actually being innovative.
A not good illinois rushing attack had 225 yards today. Wat will a Chip Kelly offense averaging 205 per game do next weekend?
