I was in Indianapolis last night. It was one of the great moments in IU sports history:

Jamarcus Shephard’s amazing thoughts on the 24-team College Football Playoff.
“I hope the NCAA actually does care about student athletes, ALL student athletes, not just the ones in the SEC and the Big Ten.”
He emphasizes accessibility to all teams in the FBS, and suggests all conference champions being able to be in that playoff, similar to the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
“Well, this kid, he puts on his pads just like this kid in this other conference. He has to come in and work under the same rules, stipulations…within the NCAA’s bylaws that the kid at another conference has to.”

Some notes from the open period of Steelers practice:
- Ben Skowronek (calf) was back out there for the first time in two weeks. A good sign for the WR room
- Last time DeShon Elliott played a game, his knee swelled up and he was shelved on IR. Not this time, he was out there and practicing. A good sign for him
- No Cam Heyward, Jalen Ramsey, or T.J. Watt, but those guys have generally been given rest days on Wednesdays
- No Brandin Echols (hamstring). He missed last week against the Saints.
I just want to take a second and imagine the reaction if it leaked that Ballard had a trade lined up for an All-Pro CB and Irsay-Gordon had refused to allow it. It would’ve been apocalyptic! That trade was generally positively received at the time.
I want to be supportive of women in sports, but Carlie Irsay-Gordon is a prime example of why certain jobs need to be left to men.
- Traded the farm for Sauce Gardner because of his name
- Gave Daniel Jones an extension
- Traded away your two cornerstone trench pieces
- Holding Jonathan Taylor hostage now
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The trade for Sauce Gardner and Daniel Jones’ extension were executed by then-GM Chris Ballard, not Carlie Irsay-Gordon, before Ballard was fired in October 2026. Jonathan Taylor signed an extension in August 2026 after expressing his desire to stay. cbssports.com/nfl/news/why-c… apnews.com/article/indian…

Trade: The #Colts are sending eight-time Pro-Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the #Seahawks, per @AdamSchefter and me.
Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts get back draft capital now before they could lose him in free agency. A Colts legend goes to the champs.

It's gameday! #iufb is set to take on Michigan, trying to win in Ann Arbor for the first time since 1967.
I'll be following along this afternoon with some thoughts and analysis. While you wait, check out my preview with the stakes of this game for IU:
journalgazette.net/sports/co…
Indiana wins 13-6 in a game that its defense stood on its head when it absolutely had to. Major questions about the offense this week as homecoming against Minnesota looms.
IU still alive for the CFP, but there are better offenses than Michigan's on this schedule.
