Where there was once destruction, today there is a place to call home. Today, we are officially opening a newly redeveloped residential complex in Kingston Gardens, rebuilt on the site of a house destroyed by firebombing. The complex now provides seven residential units, ranging from studios to two- and three-bedroom apartments, along with shared green spaces where residents can relax and connect. We will continue working to build stronger communities and create better opportunities for Jamaican families.

Yesterday was one of those moments that stays with you. Prime Minister Dr the Most Honourable Andrew Holness and I had the privilege of handing over a new home, through the New Social Housing Programme, to a family whose previous house collapsed during an earthquake a few years ago. Their mother had started the process of securing a new home for the family, but sadly passed away before she could see it completed. Knowing that something she began for her children has now been fulfilled made the occasion especially emotional. This home is more than a roof and four walls. It is a fresh start, a place of safety, and a lasting reminder of a mother’s determination to create something better for her family. I am grateful that her children can now carry that legacy forward in a home of their own.

Jamaica is setting the stage for its next phase of tourism growth. Under the Tourism 3.0 growth agenda, approximately 20,000 new hotel rooms are targeted over the next 10 to 15 years, with 5,000 already under construction. The expansion will increase the island’s room capacity while supporting new investment, employment and opportunities across the tourism value chain. #MT #MinistryofTourism
