The monopoly on money is a government monopoly. The days of seigniorage, where you let the richest people in the country coin money for a profit is supposedly long gone. Yet government bonds secure the money supply with interest payments, reinventing seigniorage.
Replying to @ProfHall1955
To give Hayek a bit of credit, he thought that money creation shouldn't be a legal monopoly either, so he wasn't just a spokesman for big finance like most of the neoliberal inteligencia. But, if a country, like the US, was designed the way that he wanted, I believe that we would revert back to the chaos of the old West. A time when the economy was run with a mess of various currencies from the dollar to the Mexican Peso, various bank created notes, and coinage produced by private businesses. People could bring plenty of money with them while moving to a new town, only to find out that their money wasn't accepted anywhere. Sometimes a government created benevolent monopoly offers everyone a lot more freedom. Freedom from inefficiency and uncertainty. At the end of the day, freedom means free time. Time that's not wasted on finding fresh water, commuting to work, disposing of waste, or trying to do business in a chaotic monetary environment. Good government gives us that kind of freedom.

🇨🇺Ex-Governor of MN Jesse Ventura talks to @hasanthehun about his trip to Cuba, his meeting with Fidel, the inhumanity of the U.S. blockade against the Cuban people, and how the blockade also violates the human rights of American citizens. In another moment, Hasan also talks about his trip to Cuba this year and how U.S. regulations forced him to stay in a specific hotel. #CubaIsNotAThreat — the blockade is!

This was a really great show and I really want to thank @jabarivocmedia and @AlRSuarez2 for having me on!
I had a great conversation with two great historians good on Eastern Europe: Chris Richards and Alex Suarez. We discussed how the US exploits the historical tensions and wars of Eastern Europe to justify its attempt to balkanize Russia, currently using Ukraine as a proxy. We covered centuries of history and conflict involving Poland, Finland, Russia, Germany, and others, from the Polish-installed Tsar Władysław IV Vasa and Catherine the Great all the way to President Putin. So we’re going to prevent venture capitalists and tech founders from voting? They’re the only people really receiving traditional “welfare” in the form of direct entitlement to cash from the government based on economic pain.
If you receive welfare, you shouldn’t get to vote because you'd be a single-issue voter on maintaining and increasing your welfare, plus voting for any party that promises to do this.

Wow, if you're so conscientious about voting for the greater good, you'd think you'd want to do something about the economy that forces everyone to look after themselves first! Especially as it forces everyone to view society through narrow "interest" in the first place.

This ended up being a great conversation and we did a great job of actually sticking to the topic and keeping the rabbit holes reasonable for the theme. Let me know what you think!

There is content and form here to pick apart, and the trick of the fascist meme is that it will hijack any message you plug into it and redirect it towards right-wing ideals. That there are a couple of bits here that come from left wing criticisms is all the more regrettable.
libs will see the most obvious left-wing criticism of left liberals and say "hm they're using the evil right wing wojacks, i can't tell who made it!"

'Glad that I'm alive': Woman recounts experience of being shot in leg at Seattle nightclub The reward for information leading to an arrest and charge in a deadly shooting at Kitten’s Cabaret in Georgetown has increased to $15,000. The person responsible has not been arrested. Police responded after multiple 911 calls reported shots fired at the nightclub on Fourth Ave. S. They found a 36-year-old security guard dead and a 27-year-old woman, who had recently started working at the club, shot in the leg. Surveillance footage showed several shots being fired from a vehicle in the parking lot before it drove away. About an hour later, the vehicle was found engulfed in flames in the SODO area. An anonymous donor contributed $14,000 to Crime Stoppers’ $1,000 reward. “I think it brings some motivation for anyone who knows who is responsible,” said Jim Fuda, Executive Director of Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound. “They can come forward and remain anonymous.” Read more: fox13seattle.com/news/woman-…

Delcy should arrest her traitorous ass
Guess who's back. Far-right leader María Corina Machado returned to Venezuela after months in a 5-star "exile." We were expecting some big showdown as she forced her way across the border or in an airport, but she just popped up in a church in Barquisimeto, Lara State
