You never know what is going to happen. That is the beauty of the festival, you are always walking around, and you will hear some music and you will see a sight and think, 'What is that?'. You stop, take the time and you sit down and listen, or you dance. It just ends up being a beautiful weekend. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd17…

Right now @ #ASME2024, @LaraVarpio is damning our #HPE history that repeatedly emphasizes the #scholarship of discovery over any other form of contribution. #meded #teaching

In these times of hopelessness & despair, envisioning what #meded can achieve in relation to professionalism & addressing the roots of hatred alongside @JohnLauner has been mind medicine. Our essay in @thelancet below. We present on the topic at @asmeofficial conf next month.

‘I lived in Lebanon during the Qana massacre in 1996 when the Israeli military fired artillery shells at a United Nations (UN) compound. Of the 800 Lebanese civilians who had taken refuge in the compound, 106 were killed and approximately 116 injured. It was during this time that I saw something that I will never forget. A father had left his family behind in his home briefly to fetch some water. During his absence there was an air raid by Israeli military jets. When he returned, he discovered that his home had been bombed and reduced to rubble. His family had all been killed. I remember him holding his child’s dead body in his arms and crying inconsolably to God. He wasn’t wailing hysterically. But his crying still penetrated my soul. I think he was blaming himself for what had happened and consumed by remorse, he was begging to his deceased family and to God to forgive him for failing to uphold his duty as a father to protect. I witnessed his reaction to his family’s death live on national television…’ Extract from my book, ‘Breakthrough. A Story of Hope, Resilience and Mental Health Recovery’ which will be published on April 18th and which can be pre-ordered: linktr.ee/ahankir – at London, Ontario

It was such a great experience co-writing this poem as a critique of @gmcuk Welcome and Valued The document itself was and is vital to disabled doctors entering the profession, but what we hope to highlight the desperate need for further progress and greater understanding 1/3
🌍✨ Celebrating #WorldPoetryDay with a special twist! 🎙️ Tune in to the latest episode of #DocsWithDisabilities podcast, where @HartlandJoseph and @Megan_EL_Brown share a collaborative poem. Their poem sheds light on the gap between organizational language and the real experiences of disabled healthcare professionals. It's a critique that prompts meaningful discussions on challenging existing narratives. #Poetry #AccessInMedicine 👉bit.ly/DWDI_Podcast_Ep88
