Legendary ocean explorer Dr. Robert Ballard was featured on @CBSSunday reflecting on the discovery of the Titanic and the continuing mission of the EV Nautilus to explore and map the largely unknown world beneath the sea. Kids ask him what his next great discovery will be. His response: "I don't know. I'm just gonna bump into it." I love that answer. It's a good description of how discovery often works and captures habits of mind we should cultivate in young people: the curiosity to go looking before you know what you’ll find, and the determination to keep going long enough to find it. My colleagues are developing a three-part graphic novel series on Ballard's life and work. Walking on the Ocean Floor takes young readers beneath the surface, following Ballard's groundbreaking discoveries, the science and technology that made them possible, and the persistence behind it all. I love the idea of Ballard’s story inspiring a new generation to stay curious, keep exploring, and see what they might bump into. cbsnews.com/video/shipwrecks… @Educurious @EVNautilus

Our curriculum designers recently had the chance to learn alongside scientists mapping the seafloor. We can't wait to bring this authentic ocean science to students and teachers, connecting classrooms to the real world.
"And we got to see the famous polymetallic nodules from our unit! Each one of these takes MILLIONS of years to form. So cool!" NCEE's Valeria Gamarra reporting from the E/V Nautilus, about the Depths of Discovery curriculum. Fun fact: Polymetallic nodules (manganese nodules) are potato-sized mineral concretions resting on abyssal plains 4,000 to 6,000 meters deep. Rich in nickel, cobalt, copper, and manganese, they have become a major target for deep-sea mining to supply the booming electric vehicle and renewable energy industries. (bit.ly/4v5iDVJ) Through the Depths of Discovery curriculum, students explore how the need for modern technologies drives resource extraction and consider the environmental and societal trade-offs of mining the ocean floor: bit.ly/43gngjr @EVNautilus

Growing up in Puerto Rico, Adrian Baez-Alicea found science, curiosity, and culture at Mar Chiquita—the “small sea” that offered clear waters to snorkel and endless views of the Atlantic. Today, that same spirit of curiosity and connection guides their work with our team and community. What’s your six-word story?

It's been great to collaborate with @Educurious on this important and exciting work!
Matthew Levey of @educationgadfly recently visited Boston to explore Massachusetts’s Investigating History curriculum. His key takeaway? Strong history instruction plays a vital role in building students’ reading skills. Research confirms that narrative texts—stories—are powerful tools for deepening knowledge and retention. We’re proud to collaborate on this important work, leveraging inquiry-based learning to create a comprehensive, content-rich history curriculum for all learners. bit.ly/4hCBHmV #HistoryMatters #ProjectBasedLearning #EducationInnovation
