NIO Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer William Li has been named 'EV person of the year' in the 2024 TopGear.com Electric Awards.
Jack Rix, Editor-in-chief of BBC Top Gear explains: “NIO CEO William Li has been signing deals all over China (including with Geely) to use its battery swap tech as a standard on future cars, stamping his mark on EVs. Meanwhile, NIO has is busy rolling out its battery swap stations across central Europe, and if the format spreads the way that it looks like it might, then Li could become one of the most influential people in the car industry full stop.”

May 8, 2024, NIO and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (“GAC Group”) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on charging and swapping in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The two will engage in comprehensive and in-depth strategic cooperation in areas related to charging and swapping, including battery standards, vehicle R&D and customization, battery asset management and operations, swapping network development and operations. In the meantime, they will also promote the opening up of their respective charging platforms to each other. With William LI, Founder, Chairman and CEO of NIO, and Feng Xingya, President of GAC Group, attending the ceremony, Fei SHEN, Senior Vice President of NIO Power, and Xia Xianqing, Vice President of GAC Group, signed the agreement on behalf of the two parties.

This is exactly the type of quality issues I expected from Xiaomi SU7. Not even a Chinese brand can build a premium vehicle to an unreasonably low price without cutting corners. It will definitely be interesting to see sales numbers in the coming months.

Many people are unaware of the advanced nature of NIO's battery swapping technology, but it's evident from the battery swap station page on their app.
Firstly, the page clearly displays how many fully charged batteries compatible with your vehicle are available. It also shows the current total number of people in line; '1 person' generally refers to the car currently being serviced at the station.
Next comes the display of high-tech features. In the yellow circle, 'en route, 15 people,' indicates that there are 15 drivers who have set this swap station as their destination in their navigation systems. The red circle, 'estimated queue on arrival,' predicts the number of people you'll have to wait behind based on the distance of each car from the station and their estimated arrival times using standard navigation speeds. This data is generally accurate, as it is only an estimate. Is there any charging station that can offer such a sense of security to its users? Even at gas stations, who can predict whether it will be crowded?
NIO owners can know in advance how busy the swap station will be and how long they may have to wait, allowing them to choose another station if it seems inconvenient, without any delay.
