Fair enough.
The individual awards are only good for debates and fan discussion.
There's no competitive advantage to your argument; "high profile", "every 4 years", "it always counted"… not that it's the best competitive football tournament.
Furthermore, that competition has its own individual awards. There's no logic in ranking Rodri as the 4th best player in the world off the back of 8 games when he was average at best over 10 months.
Voting is subjective. Same journalist give weird and embarrassing reasons for casting votes.
And Kane deserves the award with or without the World Cup.

Who said anything about feelings? It does count…it has always counted…and will continue to count. You’re trying to be funny with your Olympics reference…it’s obvious why that counts for nothing. Who was “poor for 10 months”? Surely that’s not a Harry Kane reference.

The standards just have to be more consistent.
There's no need for the WC Golden Ball winner to get a bye into the podium for BdOr (or rank highly there). They have been rewarded for their WC contributions. If anything, it should only serve as an edge in BdOr decisions.
"Doesn't have to be more competitive" but it should count because it's "more high profile" based on feelings. Quite a contradiction.
"Happens every 4 years" automatically earns it a revered title. Maybe they should consider Olympics football too since it happens every 4 years.
A player that churns out poor/average performance over 10 months gets rewarded as the best player in the world because he performed well in a 7-game tournament.
Might as well scrap league football in a World Cup year.

Doesn’t make it wrong either
You can question it all you want
And it doesn’t have to be more competitive than leagues or CL
It’s just more high profile
And it’s only once in four years
It’s not the only thing
But it’s a big factor
In the end, it’s a vote
Majority wins
Does make it right. Doesn't mean it can't be questioned. Doesn't make it more competitive than the league or Champions League. It's still a 7-game competition.

It’s always been
It always will be
It’s not just a random “7-team competition”
It’s the World Cup

Raya might be better than Simon but the gap between both goalies isn't significant enough for LDF to compromise on the intangibles that Simon adds to the team.

@Edwyeen, @ibukun_dami, @olaolubanky292, @DidiBiggs please help me out here...
Is there anything a world class #2 can do to EVER feature in a major tourney for a national team?
I don't think this question stones Unai in any form. I'm more concerned about Raya.
It has and Rodri was voted the best. Ridiculous that it's being used as the main criteria.

Let me try to attempt my question...I don't think he's undisputedly the greatest ever but for the first time he's in the conversation proper + Harry is still active so that can be a challenge..no one knows what he could still go on to achieve.
However, I believe Harry Kane is now the greatest English Striker ever. Especially because........ of the other four English men to have won the ballon d'Or he's got more goals than all.
However, If you want to judge the greatest ever English footballer based on accomplishment....then that's got to be Bobby Charlton. World Cup winner, European Cup winner, Ballon d'Or winner, Munich survivor who rebuilt Man Utd. No one else has all three. I believe he is still the standard.
Then....You talk about Stanley Matthews, Kevin Keegan, Bobby Moore
Matthews won his only Ballon d'Or at 41. Keegan is still the only Englishman to win it twice. Many purists still pick them.
If you talk about Modern Longevity.. then Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane tops it
Rooney: Man Utd all-time top scorer (253), England top scorer until Kane broke it, 5x Premier League, 1x Champions League.
Kane: England all-time top scorer (now 75+), Tottenham all-time top scorer (280), Bayern's single-season record (44 goals), European Golden Shoe winner x2, now Ballon d'Or.
On pure numbers, Kane has passed Rooney. On trophies, he still trails Charlton, Moore and Rooney.
So I'd say winning the Ballon d'Or last night surely makes Harry Kane the best English striker ever, undisputed. Other great strikers like Shearer, Greaves, Lineker, Rooney never hit that height+they didn't outscore him.
It also makes him top 4 best English players ever in my assement. Charlton, Keegan, Kane, Rooney.
The ballondor does NOT make him automatically #1 unless you value sustained individual excellence over World Cup/Champions League medals.
England has always valued the big team trophy more than any other nation.
If you ask me "Who would I want leading my line for 10 years, rain or sun?" Then it's Kane.
If you ask me "Who achieved the most for England?" - it's still Charlton because of 1966.
The Ballon d'Or doesn't end the debate. It just means you can no longer have the debate without Harry Kane.

"+14 goals added by the quality of his finishing alone"
Who or what determines it [quality of finishing]?
Harry Kane. Ballon d’Or 2026. 🌕✨
And the numbers by @Soccerment say he earned every vote.
🥈 Top scorer: 73 goals. Second best season of the century, behind only Messi
🥇 Best finisher: +14 goals added by the quality of his finishing alone, 1st in Europe
🥇 36 Bundesliga goals, 17 more than anyone else

Football didn't win, common sense won; it may take time but it [common sense] always prevails.
Harry Kane was the best player in 2025/2026 season, with or without the World Cup. He consistently delivered the most important statistics in football at a rate no player could match.
I've consistently said the World Cup should be a tiebreaker not the main criteria to determine the best player.
Spin it however you want, it's a 7/8-game competition, nothing more. It signals the end of a grueling 10-month club season.
An entire 10-month season shouldn't be devalued because of one month of football.
Zidane (1998), R9 (2002), Cannavaro (2006), Modric (2018), Messi (2023) should never have happened.
R9, Raul, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Haaland should have happened.
Y’all crying Unai Simon won the award over Raya are clowns. "Why is Olise 9th?" You only remember common sense when it comes back to bite you.
And Messi in 5th is enough reason to scrap the award 😂😂

He was the most epic teenager in the game, before Lamine.
He was so epic. I can't even describe him. His only shortcoming was ripping both his hamstrings before 22. He lost his explosiveness after, and that was pretty much his game.
