Two police officers have been sacked for gross misconduct after an elderly amputee and care home resident Donald Burgess was pepper sprayed, tasered and hit with a baton. Constables Stephen Smith and Rachel Comotto had been called to the care home in St Leonards-on-Sea in June 2022 after the 92-year-old dementia sufferer threatened carers with a knife. Donald Burgess was taken to hospital where he contracted Covid and died three weeks later.

Library self-service saves £300,000 in staff costs bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw80… - self-serve and open+ (or Libraries Unlocked 🤮) was always about ‘savings’ especially on staff and please no more “more than just books”

I shouldn’t be celebrating this as it should be the norm but I just had the perfect bus assistance 😱 🤩 The 250 was approaching and I stuck my arm out - the driver flashed his lights as he was approaching to acknowledge me (this has NEVER happened before). The bus pulled in

Tonight I was told by a Cllr that the only statutory part of a library service was the service and not the libraries, laugh I nearly cried 😳

Hi @JoeFarrugia while stations are unstaffed the toilets will be locked up to prevent possible vandalism. I am sorry for any inconvenience caused. ^DM

Let me explain the difference between libraries having always been hubs of the community and the ‘Community Hubs’ model, one is true and the other is a term hijacked by politicians, consultants and career senior officers etc to hide cuts.

As the Unison Rep for Islington Libraries I totally oppose the Council’s plans to make £1m cuts and to shoe-horn other cut services in with libraries. I will fight tooth & nail to protect this crucial statutory service. islingtontribune.co.uk/artic…

The ‘Community Hubs’ model is a smokescreen for cuts. It doesn’t improve libraries it dilutes and undermines them. Fund all public services properly and let libraries be libraries. #savelibraries

It would be a simple policy that would alleviate so much stress, save a LOT of time waiting for the chair to be returned to aircraft door plus it would likely save tens of thousands in expenses repairing / replacing chairs damaged in the hold all the time. East to implement too!
