In a new @JAMA_current study, we examined both hospital closures and openings. Since 2010, there has been a net loss of over 200 hospitals and over 24,000 inpatient beds.
While the focus has been on rural closures, hospital closures are as much an urban phenomenon as a rural one
From 2010 to 2025, US acute care hospital closures exceeded openings, resulting in a net loss of hospitals and hospital beds.
Closure rates were similar in urban and rural areas, while smaller, for-profit, and safety net hospitals closed more often, indicating that threats to acute care access extend beyond rural settings.

I'm a little shocked that I'm shocked at this point but I can't emphasize as someone who worked at HHS and with CMS what a big deal this is.
This is a huge signal that something is very, very wrong and Trump appointees are inserting themselves in highly inappropriate ways.
New: Trump is sending emails to millions of Medicare enrollees today to tout $90 payments and his broader health policies.
Democrats and advocates have said the move is an inappropriate stunt.

There's a bunch of scattered data, national and state, I'm always pulling, stuff useful for politicos, reporters, and activists on affordability, so we vibe-coded it all into one place. /1
