Interesting: A new report from @DCPoliceDept says that in 2024 police recovered 2,895 guns in the city. Forty-six percent were in the police districts covering wards 7 and 8.
Of the guns that were tracked, most were Glocks and most came from Virginia, followed by Maryland.
New details from the 58-page criminal complaint in the killings of 14-year-old Tyale Coates and 12-year-old Mhilo Young reveal one of the murder suspects recorded a video rapping about the shooting.
Police believe the two children were targeted simply because of where they live. Instagram messages helped investigators piece it together:

The debris trucks I photographed yesterday at the East Potomac Golf Course with taped-over logos also went so far as to tape over their license plates. Just re-watched the video I shot of them arriving and noticed that.

EXCLUSIVE: D.C. is launching a recruitment campaign aimed at hiring police officers, corrections officers, firefighters and paramedics.
The nearly $500K push comes as competition from federal law enforcement has worsened D.C. police's long standing staffing crisis.
Named DC Calls, the campaign spans from Maryland's Eastern Shore (where market research found billboards are likely to recruit firefighters) to New York City (where targeted digital ads aim to attract young police recruits).

She found that Buwa Binitie’s companies own or operate buildings with more than 1,600 outstanding housing code violations in D.C., including life-threatening issues that have gone unaddressed for years.
