Pio Gama Pinto, the first political matyr in independent Kenya. He was murdered right infront of his daughter in Westlands , when he was only 38 years. His death opened a series of political assassinations. Tom Mboya followed, JM Kariuki etc. He was a socialist, and many thought he was an "agent" since he had links with many foreigners. His death was pinned on Kenyattas henchmen or the SG of Kenya Petroleum workers union Mak'Anyengo Ochola. However, his death was pinned on two innocent people Kisilu Mutua and Chege Thuo. Kisilu was arrested and given life imprisonment. He was released after 35 years although he was innocent. He was arrested in Feb 1965 and was released in July 2001 following a presidential pardon by Moi. He died three years ago. One of the greatest injustices in kenyan history. Pinto was working closely with FRELIMO fighters in Mozambique. This created tension around his life. We must always remember all injustices. My job is to remind you everyday.
