Donald Trump is building a ballroom twice the size of the White House. He says it’s “his money,” but it’s really from companies chasing favors. Meanwhile, farmers can’t sell soybeans and the government’s shut down. This isn’t what Americans voted for.

President Trump’s proposed 2026 budget sought to cut $18 billion in funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a move that would affect medical research across the country. Instead of passing those cuts, the Senate Appropriations Committee increased funding to the NIH by about $400 million in a bipartisan vote.
The $400 million increase includes an allocation of $150m for cancer and another $100m for Alzheimer’s. The committee also maintained current funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at $9.1 billion.
