Listening to the entire interview, seems Tim Walz was genuine when he said “Pick Pete Buttigieg”. It fits with other things he was saying.
He is not what the leftists who are criticizing him for what he said think he is. He said he’s not a “disrupter”, he wants to get along

Walz criticized the Kamala Harris campaign. Another indication that he was probably being sincere in what he said about Pete.
The "but Trump" rebuttal to any criticism of a politician is weird and short-sighted. Trump was a celebrity who had for decades been seen as a super successful businessman. He wasn't a typical politician who relies on their campaign to convince people to support them.
