Movie chase scenes traditionally need fast cuts to heighten the energy and excitement. Peter Hyams took the opposite approach while directing the gritty Los Angeles vice cop thriller BUSTING (1974). Elliott Gould and Robert Blake pursued the bad guys for 105 seconds with only FIVE CUTS. Two years before the Steadicam was invented, the crew had to use a doorway dolly, a camera car and a studio dolly to execute these kinetic long takes. A bold filmmaking choice that demanded precise choreography and 100% effort between the actors and camera crew.
