Ginkgo is going to be an incredible collection of data points on understanding value capture, partnerships, JV selection, and so much more from building in the first generation of TechBio companies.
It's easy to be snarky when a company sells off as aggressively as their stock has (and yes, it clearly was overvalued at IPO) but being an effective first mover into a new category is hard.
Some assumptions around business model and product selection didn't go as planned for Ginkgo and many others who have not survived, and one could retrospectively argue they should have recognized this earlier. That said, regardless of if it works or not, it's very informative to see a public company attempt to right the ship and be malleable on how they can capture value from their IP, instead of bleeding quietly into the night.
If I was a founder in any adjacent spaces of TechBio, I would be trying to understand as much as possible the lessons from prior generations of companies in your space in order to set yourself up as the industry matures (and hopefully) scales.

Agreed that experimental throughout matters for AI.
If you are leveraging AI protein models @ginkgo offers both outsourced large scale data generation in ginkgo’s automated labs as well as in-house automation deployments in your lab.
No royalties and data generated is owned by the customer. Can be a fast way to get AI going for your biotech R&D!
