Last week, @EuropeanLeagues General Secretary Alberto Colombo attended the @PortugalFSummit, where he joined a panel session focused on the Governance of the game together with leading figure such us @FIFPRO Europe President David Terrier and other stakeholders’ representatives. He reiterated European Leagues’ call for comprehensive reform of FIFA’s governance. Domestic leagues, clubs and players must have a meaningful voice in decisions affecting the football calendar and competitions. He stressed that recent developments at FIFA have only reinforced the systemic governance concerns behind European Leagues’ formal complaint to the European Commission in October 2024, particularly in relation to FIFA’s dual role as both regulator and commercial operator. He also highlighted the need for all stakeholders to tackle the growing financial and sporting polarisation within European football as a priority. Stronger solidarity and a fairer, more sustainable distribution of revenues across the football pyramid would help safeguard the long-term sustainability, competitiveness and diversity of clubs across Europe.

The European Leagues Stadia Safety & Security Task Force met in Madrid for its first in-person meeting of the 2026/27 season. Member leagues exchanged knowledge, discussed common challenges and priorities for strengthening safety and security across European domestic competitions. The meeting also highlighted the importance of cooperation between stakeholders and creating a safe, welcoming and high-quality matchday experience for all supporters.

The stage is set for a new season of European club football! With the qualifying line-ups across all three UEFA competitions now confirmed, European Leagues members will once again be strongly represented across the continent.
