Whole blood in trauma has generated enormous interest. Today, @SWiFT_trial in @NEJM provides the clearest randomised evidence so far on whether prehospital whole blood improves outcomes in life-threatening traumatic haemorrhage: tinyurl.com/SWiFTNEJM
Presented at #ISICEM:
Among patients with traumatic hemorrhage, prehospital whole-blood transfusion was not superior to standard transfusion with red-cell and plasma components in reducing the risk of death or massive transfusion. Full phase 3 SWiFT trial results: nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NE…

The @SWiFT_trial @NHSBT is opening @NWAirAmbulance in September 2023
The study looks at whether giving whole blood instead of red blood cells + plasma will reduce mortality 24 hours after injury & reduce the need for further large blood transfusions when patients get to hospital
🩸🩸 Did you know a new clinical trial has started, which will see air ambulance crews carry 'whole blood' instead of separate red blood cells and plasma for the treatment of severely injured patients at risk of bleeding to death. buff.ly/3mwqn55
