ETG are looking for a researcher with an interest in tests who has some evaluation or health economic modelling experience. Initially to help with a one year project. Funding is available to develop this into a long term post to improve modelling of test cost-effectivness.
We're looking for a Health Economist (Postdoctoral Research Associate) to work on evaluating the implementation of an artificial intelligence system for the detection of skin cancer in primary care. Apply here: tinyurl.com/yeex3h9u

Whether AI is currently being sufficiently evaluated remains legitimately under debate. Hope this pre-print shows how the evidence-base for AI could be improved through carefully collection of data as part of post-marketing surveillance.

Exeter Test Club 4/4/2023. Fascinating talk from Tim MacDonald on developing the evidence base for a potential screening programme for neonatal diabetes. Recording available shortly medicine.exeter.ac.uk/testgr… Many thanks Tim.

Comparative accuracy. Just a reminder that theres a great tool to help judge validity. Yang B, et al. QUADAS-C: A Tool for Assessing Risk of Bias in Comparative Diagnostic Accuracy Studies. Ann Intern Med. 2021 Nov;174(11):1592-1599. doi: 10.7326/M21-2234.

Sorry to disagree Matt. There is a fundamental problem that the accuracy was assessed on different numbers of participants. This will introduce confounding into any comparisons

Important paper Gordon. Can we make it more accessible?

Some may be surprised at the number and variety of randomized trials of diagnostic tests/strategies looking at diagnostic impact (effect on patient-important outcomes) that investigators have conducted. doi.org/10.1016/j.jclinepi.2…

In tomorrows Exeter Test Club Prof Tsaneva-Atanasova will be talking about Digital tests as diagnostic aids for mental health. “I will present our work on identifying and quantifying movement signature during human - virtual partner interaction" says @KrasiTsaneva #ExeterTestClub

Perhaps we can have a crack at heterogeneity in test accuracy systematic reviews and meta-analyses next? I'm fed up with people telling me it doesn't matter🤬

This was a hard slog, but the results are important. There are many aspects of HTAs of tests which are inconsistent between national HTA organisations. Taking into account claims of tests is one. Most do, but few use these to systematically and transparently guide the HTA process

If the only outcome is accuracy it is debatable whether this an RCT. A comparative accuracy study might be a better description based on the description in the abstract at least.
Currently teaching our med students about tests. Often wonder whether I am doing more harm than good by cramming formulae for sensitivity etc. Exploring whether understanding of test accuracy results by direct engagement with 2x2 table might work. Thoughts welcome

NEW preprint 'Stability of prediction models' @Richard_D_Riley arxiv.org/abs/2211.01061 Influenced by @f2harrell 'example models', different samples from a population to train models (small/mod. N) will lead to wildly different predictions for the same individual. #statstwitter
