Well guys it's been fun these last couple weeks and seeing everyone again but sadly I don't plan on returning to frequent posting. Just wanted to hop on and have some fun for a bit. This isn't a 2 year disappearance or anything this time lol I'll be checking in here and there!

I respect the Jackson LotR films but I hate how they unintentionally caused fantasy's aesthetic to be hyperrealistic swords, warriors, and towns all the way down. Tolkien’s art style has more in common with Mary Blair's Disney work & Moomins than most modern fantasy portfolios.

Definitely the most eerie of Tolkien’s poems from this collection and another great example of Gothic horror Tolkien rearing its head.

With the date of composition predating even The Book of Lost Tales this really feels like the kernel of influence to an idea that many decades and permutations later would become the Nameless Things from LOTR.

You know what kind of Tolkien adaptation I would want? Somebody putting the whole Lord of the Rings to verse.
