The healthiest combo:
Cold water - river or ocean - barefoot on natural ground, bare skin exposure to sunlight and natural movements altogether.

Why I posted these photos:
First, this wasn’t planned, went on a 4 hours hike on a steep mountain trail with my sister, a very hot and sunny day, we stop by a river, I’m all sweaty and she takes photos without me knowing, before I jump in the cold water.
That evening we’re going to a restaurant in that little town, she shows me the photos, I decide to share two of them.
The point I’m making, is that just because you’re in your 50’s doesn’t mean you are physically finished.
That’s a myth.
I’m showing to inspire some of you to take care of their health and body more.
I’ve been here since 2009 and barely ever posted photos of my physique.
I don’t have “ before and after” photos where I would show physical transformation through a specific workout and diet.
That’s not the point I’m making.
I’ve never exercised to make my body look a certain way, a modern representation of a so-called ideal body built in a gym with modern exercise machinery.
This is a completely natural body.
I exercise naturally. I eat natural food.
No peptides, hormones, TRT, stem cell therapy or else.
No special diet, plan or protocol.
The “secrets”? Been sharing them frequently, for years:
-quality sleep
-sunlight/ground/nature
-Natural Movement
-healthy food
-stress regulation (prayer, breath-holding meditation)
Mostly. That’s it.
I’m not a “longevity expert.” I’m no better than anyone else.
I’m not selling you anything with this.
That’s why there’s no link, no “DM me” or not “comment such or such word and I’ll send you info.”
No.
My message is:
Take care of yourself. Treat yourself well. Your body, your mind, your heart and spirit.
Life is not easy. But you can make it worse by neglecting your fundamental healthy needs. And you can make it way better by tending to them. It’s never too late. You can change a lot for the better and quickly. How? By applying the simple essential principles I shared above.
That’s it.
I’m trying to encourage and inspire.
But only you know what is best for you.
Only you know what to do.
Listen to that voice within that wants the best for you.

Ray Peat viewed atherosclerosis not as a simple “cholesterol clogging the arteries” problem but as a metabolic, inflammatory process involving thyroid function, stress, PUFA oxidation, and vascular injury.

Today in The Science and Experience of Energy we explore our energetic origins.
We cover a special issue of papers on the evolution of the mitochondrial genome (mtDNA), explaining what made all of multicellular life possible.
We come from a bacterial evolutionary merger—pretty humbling.

Fuel (glucose or fat) + O2 —> ATP + CO2 + H2O
This simple equation is the story of bioenergetics.
Most discussions focus on the fuels:
glucose vs fat
carbs vs keto
calories, …
But the equation tells a fuller story:
oxygen / CO2 (from breathing) is essential.
Without effective breathing:
O₂ delivery drops
electron transport slows
ATP production declines
CO₂ balance is disrupted
the whole system shifts away from efficient oxidative metabolism
So bioenergetics is also about:
how you breathe
how well gases (O₂/CO₂) are regulated
how effectively circulation delivers them
Breathing belongs in the same central conversation in bioenergetics.
Weifan Zheng, Ph.D retweeted
Bioenergetics / oxidative metabolism is not just about what and how you eat, but also about how you **breathe**.
Organism respiration is not just about air / oxygen - it involves breathing mechanics + CO₂ regulation + blood flow.
Just “get more oxygen” is incomplete. CO₂ is also essential, not just from the main stream view of acid-alkaline balance but also from Ling / Peat view of how CO2 may bind to cellular matrix functioning as electron withdrawing cardinal adsorbents - strengthening the coherence of the cells.
CO2 also enables oxygen to be released from hemoglobin (the Bohr effect), enabling the oxidative efficiency of the Electron Transport Chain. Overbreathing → low CO₂ → reduced oxygen delivery to tissues and cells, which negatively affects your oxidative metabolism regardless of what you eat.
Breathing also has neuromuscular and regulatory effects:
- diaphragm efficiency matters (shallow vs deep)
- breathing pattern matters (slow vs fast)
- nervous system state matters (parasympathetic v sympathetic)
Shallow, rapid breathing (common under stress) can impair circulation and tissue oxygenation.
If you care about mitochondrial function and energy transformation, pay attention to how you breathe in addition to what you eat.

Here's what it looks like.
Don't force maximum amplitude on the first cycle. This is why I start with moderate amplitude and build progressively to warm up the body to full range.
Finally, forced exhale to - nearly - empty then max inhale to the fullest. That's what I call "maxiventilation."
ONCE the warmup is done, make sure to take 2-3 regular breath cycles between each maximum breath cycle, to reset your nervous system to a calm state.
You can find the full context, variations of this exercise, and integration into practice inside the Masterclass. That, and much more.

NIR from sunlight penetrates deep into your body reaching muscle, brain, even bone. Unlike blue light which barely gets past the skin surface.
When NIR photons reach mitochondria, cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV) acts as the photoreceptor. The absorbed photons cause a conformational change that releases nitric oxide from the heme and copper centres into the mitochondrial matrix.
That NO at moderate signalling levels promotes melatonin synthesis INSIDE the mitochondria. This is subcellular melatonin, distinct from pineal melatonin. It gets consumed within the cells where its made.
We spend 93% of our time indoors now. Zero NIR exposure.

Night light is cancer food, no further comment required.
""Artificial light at night is significantly correlated for all forms of cancer as well as lung, breast, colorectal, and prostate cancers individually. Immediate measures should be taken to limit artificial light at night in the main cities around the world and also inside houses."

2025 light study on humans not ugly rats:
Natural daylight bigly improves blood sugar control and fat metabolism in people with type 2 diabetes and artificial indoor light makes it worse.
Study details...
• 13 older adults with T2D spent 4.5 days in natural daylight vs. artificial light (everything else identical)
• When in natural light they had more stable glucose, more hours in normal range, less variability and better fat oxidation
• Why? Natural light timing properly syncs your brain clock with clocks in your muscles & organs
• Artificial light (the stuff in 90% of our indoor lives) causes chaos with accurate timing and indoor artificial light is way too dim plus bad colors and flicker.
What can you do based on this study?
No surprise to BLD readers....I sound like broken record.
• MAX your natural daylight during the day (windows open, get outside)
• ZERO blue light after sunset (blockers + red bulbs)
• Morning sunlight or bright light therapy and red and NIR reset
• Daylight only eating window

Attention Sad Bros....
Here is a fact your therapist does not want you to know.
Fixing your circadian rhythm with light can treat your depression faster than couch talks and drugs...
The meta analysis will turn your frown upside down.
Bright light is mood medicine.
Here's a quick summary and depression action plan.
Chronotherapy delivers rapid antidepressant effects. Bright light or a combo of sleep deprivation (wake therapy), sleep phase advance and morning bright light therapy works in hours to days versus weeks to months for drugs or talk therapy.
Across randomized controlled trials in this study, chronotherapy beat controls, antidepressants, psychotherapy and exercise for both unipolar and bipolar depression.
Why?
It directly repairs the broken master clock that is largely responsible for your dumb depression.
Here's what to start doing now.
Daily Morning bright light within 1 hour of waking. This is the biggest part. Use the special bright light therapy device in the first reply below if you cannot get outside for some reason.
ZERO blue light and little green light after sunset (use blue blockers and red bulbs all in the replys below)
Consistent early (ish) sleep time
Only eat in the day do not eat in the dark
If you cant get outside for multiple sun breaks daily, use your red light therapy machine for extra mitochondrial and mood support.
Ok thats all for today, sad bros.

He was punished: lab shut down, federal funding pulled, career ended.
