Highly specialized FBI Cyber Action Team (CAT) operators and @USCG personnel conducted joint offshore boardings of two foreign-flagged commercial vessels in the Gulf of America. CAT is the FBI’s rapid-response fly team, capable of deploying across the globe within hours to respond to major cyber threats and attacks on critical services. These boardings were conducted in August to ensure integrity of the vessel’s IT and OT systems following indications that both vessels’ networks had been compromised. Commercial crews and shore-side staff were critical partners in helping to ensure the threats were mitigated. Currently, there are no reports of operational disruptions, vessel instability, physical danger to crews, or environmental impacts. The @FBI and the Coast Guard commend the extensive cooperation from the impacted vessels and continue to encourage maritime partners to request cyber assistance.
