Attending today’s launch of the National School of Government and Public Services, FDA Head of Organising and Learning Deri Bevan said: “I am looking forward to hearing about the plans for the new National School of Government at the launch today. Learning and development are key to improving public sector productivity and I am keen to see how this investment will support civil servants to develop and progress, and also how our FDA Learn offer can align with it. “It’s great to work in partnership with the government using the insights from our learning offer to co-design the NSG’s curriculum, with FDA representatives meeting with Cabinet Office Minister Mark Ferguson this morning to kickstart that process, discussing topics such as AI and support/training for line managers."

Bevan added: “There is certainly an appetite for flexible and high-quality learning across the civil service as we have seen from the ever-rising numbers engaging with our FDA Learn programme, which provided over 12,000 learning opportunities to civil servants last year.” Find out more about FDA Learn: fda.org.uk/fdalearn/

“Raising the paybill by 2.3% would not leave enough resources to fund and further develop an effective pay progression system and risks undoing all of the progress the FDA won last year" @Lauren_Crowley reacts to government's evidence to the SSRB. civilserviceworld.com/profes…

Advertising the employer contributions to a DB scheme may make the overall package look competitive but ultimately demonstrates just how far behind civil service pay is compared to private and wider public sector. Me in @theipaper for @FDA_union inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/…

Responding to the publication of the government's evidence to the Senior Salaries Review Body, FDA Assistant General Secretary Lauren Crowley said: "The government recommending a 2.3% rise to SCS pay in their evidence to the SSRB is disappointing as this does not keep pace with inflation expectations for the remainder of 2026 and 2027. "It also contradicts the government’s commitment to pay progression. Raising the paybill by 2.3% would not leave enough resources to fund and further develop an effective pay progression system and risks undoing all of the progress the FDA won last year. By underinvesting in pay, the government is shying away from key workforce decisions that ministers rely on to pursue their programme of government. "The FDA will shortly publish its own evidence to the SSRB, which calls for a fair and consolidated pay award that protects the value of SCS pay and ability for staff to progress through their pay band. "In the last pay round we saw the SSRB show the benefits of a truly independent pay review body by taking into account the wider context and recommending an award that exceeded the government's own recommendation. We hope that the SSRB once again recognises that civil service pay and reward is intrinsically linked to government delivery."

Replying to @CSWnews
Dave Penman @FDAGenSec is quite right that excessive turnover of ministers undermines the drive to reform the civil service and working of Whitehall. As Public Appointments Commissioner I dealt with seven ministers in five and a half years including one for three weeks!!!!

The key to good workforce transformation is timely and effective engagement. So was good to get that commitment from @Prifweinidog and @DafyddTrystan as well as a recognition of the commitment from the civil service to help deliver the Programme for Government.
