The Current Landscape of Fragility Fracture Care in the People’s Republic of China
As China’s population ages, improving fragility fracture care is becoming an increasingly urgent priority.

The key message? Better fragility fracture care goes beyond surgery. Strengthening multidisciplinary care, expanding Fracture Liaison Services (FLS), and prioritizing rehabilitation and prevention are essential to improving outcomes and reducing future fractures.
Despite this progress, challenges remain in secondary fracture prevention, sarcopenia and fall prevention, and the development of a national hip fracture registry.
A recent article highlights advances in robotic-assisted surgery, innovative fracture treatments, and the benefits of orthogeriatric co-management in improving outcomes and reducing mortality.
The Fragility Fracture Network (FFN) joins six other international organizations in a new joint position paper published in European Geriatric Medicine, calling for a coordinated approach to fall and fracture prevention.
The paper highlights the need to:
🔹 Advance research and innovative approaches to integrated care
Better prevention starts with better coordination. Bringing fall and fracture prevention together can improve continuity of care and outcomes for older adults.

🔹 Integrate fall risk and bone health assessments.
🔹 Strengthen multidisciplinary care pathways and professional education.
🔹 Embed prevention in healthy-ageing policies.
Every fragility fracture is an opportunity to prevent the next.
This World Osteoporosis Day, we join the global call to Build, Protect, Strengthen Your Bones for Life.
At the Fragility Fracture Network, we are committed to closing this gap through coordinated care, secondary fracture prevention, education and global collaboration.

Osteoporosis-related fractures can have life-changing consequences, yet too many patients leave healthcare settings without appropriate assessment, treatment or follow-up to reduce their risk of further fractures.
FFN supports healthcare professionals and patients through dedicated resources, including the FFN Vertebral Fragility Fracture (VFF) Model and patient education tools, designed to promote better understanding, recognition and management of vertebral fractures.
Vertebral fractures can significantly affect mobility, independence and quality of life. Early identification, appropriate management, rehabilitation and secondary fracture prevention are essential to improving patient outcomes.
Vertebral fractures (VFs) are often under-recognised and underreported, despite their importance in identifying osteoporosis and preventing future fractures.
