We have an unusually High #Tornado Threat from #Hurricane Isaias
This movie uses real data, to help educate on why this storm poses an enhanced risk. Notice the yellow vs blue arrows. Yellow are the winds just below the clouds, it’s the low level wind flow (jet) around and feeding into the storm. Blue are the mid-level winds associated with the jet stream. You’ll notice that as Isaias approaches the Gulf Coast the blue arrows increase and the low-level vs mid-levels winds vigorously cross (X) each other. That’s the jet stream (blue arrows) being infused into the tropical system. That will create more cross winds/ shear, weaken #Isaias, but embolden spin in the outer bands. This injection of energy will power strong #tornadoes on the storm’s east side at landfall in the #Florida Panhandle and beyond into the Southeast. Not all storms have this, but it’s more common in fall as the mid-latitude jet stream increases. And it gives the transitioning tropical storm system a different character. It causes the wind field at the core to expand, making the storm larger, empowering the outer bands with more wind, at the expense of the core winds which weaken. (Although all set ups are different, Milton and Sandy come to mind)
*This animation does use real wind data, but the tornadoes are added to illustrate where the greatest risk is. They are not meant to forecast exactly where the tornadoes will be.

🌀TRACKING ISAIAS: The NHC expects Isaias to strengthen into a Category 3 major hurricane "soon" as it bears down on the northern Gulf Coast where it is expected to make landfall late Friday into early Saturday. The weather is expected to 'go downhill quickly' today along the coast and residents are being urged to complete their last-minute storm preparations. Latest: foxweather.com/weather-news/…

Hurricane Isaias has continued to organize overnight. Those hurricane high end models I keep sharing appear to be correct. Now 110mph. Pressure 963mb. Clear eye. Solid convection and presentation. Official forecast now reaches 120mph before the coast. And likely strong CAT 2 mentioned. Latest Hurricane models aren't baking down. Major Hurricane possible. Track hasn't changed much. Shear as I have learned is hard to predict and forecast impacts. Those that follow know that's been my talking point. Next several hours things get tweaked. Overall impact ideas still the same. Just might increase for some. spaghettimodels.com – at Brent, FL

Holy cow it's fixing to get cold. Floridians aren't built for this. Huge arctic cold front dives into the state this Saturday. Sunday AM will have record cold temps spread all across the Florida peninsula. Wind Chills in the single digits up north, with 20s to the south. No escaping it. We have to prepare. It is going to take much more than socks and flops this time around.

East Coast Mid-Atlantic snow storm this weekend. Yes. Chances here from the NWS on where things could pile up. And forecast models still include a big chunk of North Carolina. Imagine snow on the Atlantic beaches and OBX. Might just happen!

Winter Storm brewing this weekend across the Mid-Atlantic. Latest NOAA 'Moderate' impact percentages here. Some bigger cities showing in the 'Major' impact range, including Raleigh. Lots to watch for this weekend as forecast comes together. Deepening low off the coast could bring 'Tropical' force winds for the coast too (OBX). Pressures under 980mb on a few runs.

There are increasing chances for snow and ice from the southern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic late this week and into the weekend. There is still plenty of uncertainty in the forecast, which will evolve in the coming days, so stay up to date on the latest at weather.gov.
