You don’t get paid for effort in commercial real estate brokerage. You only get paid for execution.
It’s easy for attorneys, CPAs, and other consultants to criticize a big commission check... but they get paid no matter what.
A broker can work on a deal for months or years and get paid $0.
How hard you work and how much time you spend means nothing if you don’t close the deal.

But don't turn into an AI specialist. Spending 3 hours optimizing a tool that saves you 1 isn't progress. Clients pay you to know the market and close deals.
Use it to do your job, not replace it.

Set up AI to send me reminders and build my to-do lists. A lot of it ended up as spam.
Still use it as backup, but my main system is pen and paper. Write it down, cross it off, crumple it up, toss it. That feels like done.

So dumb.
I wanted simplicity in life and thought passive income was the way to get there. After all, what couple be simpler than opening your mailbox and cashing a check.
So, in my pursuit of simplicity, I added a stupidly amount of complexity. Real estate, mortgages, insurance companies, tax payments, tenants and leases, income and expense tracking, maintenance and repairs, accounting, asset protection / estate planning, etc etc. Such a colossal headache.
Dang. I fell for it. Caught myself in the trap.
I’m now optimizing for simplicity. Free time and space to create and be with family and friends.
Go to work. Work out. Be with family. Read. Take photos. Learn to surf. Travel. Make simple to manage investments…or not. No stress.
Following up on an LOI, site submittal, or lease draft isn't being annoying. It's the job.
Inboxes are overflowing, and the brokers who follow up with purpose are the ones getting deals done. I've never lost one from following up too much.

Outlook search never worked well for me. Now I ask Claude like I'd ask an assistant: "Find the email where the landlord countered on CAM charges." It finds it in seconds. No keyword guessing, no scrolling a 40-reply thread.
Anyone else doing this?
